Can anyone give me an approximate cost of a LIPA bill? I know everyone's situation is different, so I'm looking for examples of what you pay and the size of the home/apartment you have.

I just got my LIPA bill and I'm a little surprised to say the least.

I just had my lowest bill in 2 years...$138

1800 sq ft cape with oil heat, CFL's and we are careful to unplug the computers etc. However I have electric hot water and dryer which are beasts. We are typically 190-200 but I have been a real pain in the a$$ about using the clothes line instead of the dryer and that kind of thing. AC in summer adds about $40 a month.

$112 for a 4br house for May. all old appliances. I don't know if my dryer is gas or electric but we do a lot of laundry.

Average for the year, $200 / month. 2200 sq. ft. house, oil heat, electric dryer and stove, central air. Very careful with lights.

My average is about 11-15kwh / day, this ammounts to about a $85-$90 bill a month. Higher in the summer, lower in the winter. This is the years average.

I have a 1400 sq fr home, gas stove, heat, dryer. Cfl lamps almost everywhere. and no wasting lights. 2 computers (not always on), 2 televisions. a pool, and soon to be 4 a/c's two of which are only on at night, one not that much at all, and the last soon to be installed, and home all day with a pregnat wife (we'll see how much that one is on)

Look at your own meter. LIPA estimates every other month, and they may be off by about $20 on the estimated month (mine usually is) After all is said and done LIPA seems to charge me 21 cents a kwh.

2200 sq feet. I am on the budget plan and it hovers around $180 a month. DH works from home so there is always something sucking electricity. We have gas heat, hot water, dryer, stove. We use CFLs too, they do make a difference.

So, I'm either getting ripped off by LIPA or my neighbor is feeding off my electric.

I live in a smallish 2BR apartment. We work all day so nothing is on during the day. We have no air conditioners. 2 televisions. 1 computer. Electric stove (don't cook everyday, though). CFLs in every lamp/fixture. Small new (energy star) fridge.

I just got my bill yesterday: $95

Something is wrong.

Nope, sounds about right. I paid about 120$/mo in my old apt in LB with leaving 1 computer on, using TV/video games a lot, gas stove/dryer.

Is this your first bill?

If so, it will change. LIPA is terrible about estimating usage. Look on the bill and if any of the meter readings are estimated, I'd say thats the culprit.

Also look at the bill for the next meter read date. Mine is usually the 25th of every other month, so about the 24th of the estimated months I enter my own reading online. Its much more accurate.

No. I've lived here almost 2 years. The bill started low and slowly went up, up, up. This $95 is insane. We have no washer/dryer or anything else that would eat up electricity like that.

The people in the apartment next to mine were busted for tapping into the downstairs tenant's cable. It wouldn't surprise me if they were tapping into our electric somehow.
