They could get more ridership back if they actually modernized their service patterns. Diesel service is atrocious off-peak. The Port Jefferson Line is a shuttle to Huntington with a slow transfer to a slow electric train (they could at least run the trains to Hicksville to connect with Ronkonkoma express trains). Oyster Bay trains should be running to Hunterspoint Avenue and providing off-peak service there. Montauk Branch trains should be every 2 hours Montauk - Jamaica with hourly Babylon - Mastic/Shirley shuttles. Stopping patterns should be standardized...it's like eeny - meeny - maany - moh with the way they decide how some of these trains stop. That alone would do wonders regardless of what they do on the western end as far as building a new terminal.

Don't know who MTA got them from but someone is stuffing themselves with all those repairs.
I believe one of them broke down on the first day.

Then you added the track from the interchanges and Jamaica to Grand central. This was the only chance to run high speed bullet trains like Europe and Asia have, but no we used 100 year old technology.

Maybe there isn't space from FP to Jamaica for a 3rd track, we could of built highspeed rail from Hicksville to FP then take 1 track out of service for 2-3 years (yes painful, busses would be needed) replace 1 track with highspeed rails then continue on all the way to grand Central.

12b for old tech its unreal and unthinkable that this was done. There is a reason we don't have horse and buggies and carrier pigeons anymore, in my world a project of this magnitude is no different.
There's four tracks from Floral Park to Jamaica. The Hempstead Branch adds 2 tracks to the Main Line.

But then there's a discount for not going all the way to Zone 1 (Which is more than $2.75) so you still save some money taking the subway at Jamaica.

Been taking it for a month now. It’s been great not having to see Penn or an E train.
On 27th the regular schedule kicks in and it’s looking awesome. I’ll leave home 23 minutes later and still get to work on time.

Good for you. Seems like that the 20% or so of GC commuters are benefiting but the 80% of commuters going to Penn or Brooklyn are getting screwed.

The LIRR simply should have kept the current schedules in place, and use shuttle trains to GC. You know, what they're doing now (and what seems to benefit you also).

Exactly. People are making career decisions to leave jobs because of this.

I picked a house close to he station in a quiet little town. I walk to train.

If I worked in Brooklyn, for whatever reason, Id never buy a house in LI. Thats what NJ and SI is for.
