No idea who I'm voting for, voted against Cuomo in the primaries and elections for years but if they run Zeldin for governor it will be an easy choice to vote for her.
If she enforced the booster mandate it would have created a shortage in nursing homes, smart decision. Those that believe the vaccine was a sham live in an alternate realty since it protected workers and prevented the healthcare system from being overwhelmed.
This former Dem will vote for anyone but Trump at this point. I can't stand Zeldin but Hochul needs to be made an example of for sending lawyers to court to force masks back on kids. That's when I made my official decision about her, as did my wife and many other former Dems we know. When you are losing teachers, you are losing the election.

Losing teachers? The teacher's union is still firmly on her side. Stand up to this union and ALL politicians supporting them.
Meanwhile she dropped the mask mandate for public facing workers - DMV had half their workers out with covid and instead of going on quarantine - they just made people from healthy units go work in the infected units. Not an air purifier anywhere. The woman telling me had so much anxiety that I actually had sympathy for a DMV worker. The State did nothing to protect them all through the pandemic and kept traffic hearings flowing to bring in the revenue - at the expense of their workers. That's some system they have. Governor prattles on about safety but has a 9% track record for the state workers themselves.

Why can't the workers just continue to mask if they want to reduce their risk of catching covid? Were they prevented by DMV to be able to mask?

Masks don't reduce risk of catching Covid. But lolling that DMV workers are pretending they actually want to work. The DMV and other public-facing government agencies became make-work programs for Democratic in-groups long ago. Most offices like that have a handful of truly competent employees with a majority of warm bodies pining for their next coffee break.
Reminds me of the breathless news coverage a few months ago of high school kids "walking out" because of lifted mask mandates, as if high school kids wouldn't use any excuse not to go to class.
