9000+ sq ft on acre does look out of place...well, here it does when many of the homes are 1950's structures and less than 2000 sq ft. (We have a number of tear downs that rebuilt 4000-5000 sq ft homes.) The home needs 2 acres as it rivals some of the bigger homes in CSH/Lloyd Harbor/Lloyd Neck.
Probably depends on the way the house is situated and the site itself. You'd never notice it at my sister's old place; the front yard was well-treed and it was up a slight incline from the road. As it was she had a 3 car garage with a loft that you couldn't see from the road. Fairly narrow lot so you'd be building back, not side to side.
