I live on LI right now and would like to buy my first property here as well. I am looking for a nice town but I am not too familiar with the conditions of each town on LI. Below are the features I am looking for and hope you can help me find my dream place:
1) Safe.
I consider safety to be the most important and want to live in a low crime rate place.
2) Transportation to Manhattan.
I work in mid-town Manhattan while my Dad works on LI. It will be great if it takes less than 1 hour to get to Midtown.
3) Cheap 2 Bedroom property.
I will take my parents with me, so I would like to find an affordable property.
Also, I like an apartment, but many say that it is noisy because you can hear your neighbors easily. Is this true? And how can I check on that before I decide to buy? What are other possible cons compare to a house?
Lastly, what is the best website or real estate agent to look for property listing? I am using Zillow right now.
This mostly depends on your definition of "cheap." (Also "safe" - some would say an area like Patchogue is "safe," while others would disagree.) Where do you live now? Do you like it? Why or why not? Once we know what you mean, it'll be easier to make recommendations.
Safe AND cheap? Not happening.
Less dangerous and cheap? Maybe.
Eh, I think this is an exaggeration. I've lived in inexpensive places on LI and in other places, and while some common sense needs to be applied (i.e. don't stroll down main street with your Dr. Dre $150 headphones on while carrying your LV bag at 2:30 in the morning), I don't think "cheap" automatically means unsafe. Like I said upthread, it depends on OP's personal definitions of "safe" and "cheap."
Hicksville is cheaper and safe as long as you are not near the LIRR station. South of Old Country Road is better. 45 minutes to Penn Station by LIRR. And has plenty of rentals as well if you are looking for that.

Thank you for reading.
*Firstly----Ignore anything posted by Longislandpenn
*Second--You are being a little too vague. What is your idea of cheap? We need a specific range. honestly Nassau county will be better for commuting but your expectations for cheap might be far different than actual numbers.
