One I heard about recently:
In October 1959, Earl Van Horn, figure skater and owner of Mineola Roller Rink, was shot and killed by his wife Jean. Someone showed me copies of the old Newsday stories; there was lots of coverage especially during the trial (she was acquitted)

Mineola Roller Rink - Forgotten Roller Rinks of the North East

NY Times has coverage but unfortunately behind a paywall

The Wickham murders in Cutchogue, 1850’s.
Farm worker hacked them up with an axe in the middle of the night.

Wow...Old post still going.

There was the "Hauppauge teen admitted to murdering stepfather with samurai sword" in Hauppauge 2005.

In recent times, the Gilgo beach murders once again put LI in the news across the country....

Don't remember that one but do remember the "Headless body in topless bar" story.
