Nassau, Suffolk test emergency response system
(10/21/10) OLD BETHPAGE - Hundreds of Nassau and Suffolk police officers are testing their emergency preparedness skills today in Old Bethpage at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy.
During the drill, a simulated “nerve agent” is intercepted by cops in a U-Haul truck at the Nassau-Suffolk County border.
SWAT teams and chemical experts are all part of the two and a half day exercise.
Police are telling residents not to be alarmed if you see emergency vehicles or planes hovering.
The teams are testing their response to a potential terror threat and looking for simulated weapons of mass destruction that could come by land, by sea or by air.
