OK got another place for MMOB to go enjoy his retirement & get fat, cheaply.

My buddy & I stopped downtown the other day so he could cash a slot ticket our (adopted) grandma gave him. We parked at Binion's & walked to Golden Nugget to cash the ticket. On the way we saw a sign for a pizza special at Binions in Benny's Bullpen (sports bar).

After cashing the ticket, he asked if I wanted to try it, so I said "What the h-e-doublehockeysticks".

For the grand sum of $10 (or thereabouts) you get a large 16 inch pizza & 60 oz pitcher of beer (MGD or Miller Lite, I think). The beer sucks, but hey - it's cheap. The pizza was actually fairly decent, better than most things pretending to be pizza in Las Vegas. No, it won't make you forget Gino's East or Lou Malnati's from Chicago, but it's decent.

The total damage (with tax) was all of $10.41 (if memory serves). I think we left our server $13 with tip. I couldn't finish all the beer so we gave the remaining 1/3 pitcher to the group at the next table. I'll certainly go there again & recommend anyone looking for a cheap Vegas meal to give it a shot.

Thanks, but I don't think I'd want to drive downtown for mediocre pizza and beer, regardless of price. If I wanted to do that, I could walk over to Bootleg Benny's on Durango for the same $10 pizza and pitcher special.

But on a related matter, I won't be eating any pizza for awhile because I've begun a diet and workout regime while my wife is out of the country. So I'm limiting my dining out to restaurants offering healthier fare, e.g., sushi. I've put on about 10+ pounds in the four months that I've been here and I want to take those excess pounds off before I go back to D.C. in August.

Edit: But I wouldn't mind going to Benny's for a cigar and a pint of Guinness when I'm in the area. I have walked through Benny's and it is a very nice bar.

OK, this time for everyone - not just MMOB ...

The Carnival World Buffet at the Rio gives locals (with Nevada ID) about 1/2 off Monday thru Friday. This makes lunch around $8.50 (before tax) or dinner for $12.50. I took my girlfriend the other afternoon & we still got lunch pricing at 3 PM (think it runs until 3:30 PM). This worked out great since they brought out crab legs & extra seafood for dinner around 3:30-4 PM.

The sushi was surprisingly OK (not great, I know it's a buffet). Most of the food was good but not great; at those prices, it's certainly a good deal. The best part of the meal, tho? Mango gelato for dessert; highly recommended.

It's a pretty decent buffet with a diverse selection - definitely not in the class of the Wynn or Bellagio, but good. Hard to come close to this at these prices.

Go to TripAdvisor dot com - there is an entire thread on places to eat in Vegas. We consulted that before our trip and were not disappointed. There is a fantastic steak place around the corner from the Tuscany (which is a very long block off the strip on Flamingo or Tropicana - can't remember).

We stayed at the Tuscany and were not disappointed - it was everything we wanted - quiet, pool, small casino, decent food - and the room was incredible. A short walk around the corner and the steak place had home-brewed beer too. It was around $5 for each of us for a full dinner and I didn't finish mine. We went back a 2nd day.

Was it Ellis Island? They have good, cheap food and I love their barbeque ribs!

That is it. Ellis Island - one of the great Las Vegas bargains.

I forgot about these three...
1. Foothills Ranch (I think that was the name of it) out on Rancho has a $5 steak special. It wasn't anywhere near as good as the Ellis Island one, though. I could have sworn the steak came from Save a Lot. (Regarding other posts about the Ellis Island, they always undercook the steak. Ask for medium well and you should be okay.)
2. Tacos, two for 99c at Jack in the Box. People in MI still rave about these and Jack has been gone from MI for 30 years now. They're that good.
3. The buffets at the Texas Station and Palace Station weren't bad for being under $10 a person. They weren't great, but they were worth it for the price.
