Hi All,

Finally my work has approved me to move to Vegas. I'll rent first then buy a house later. I have a few questions:

1) What would be the best/most economical way to move all my furniture from Reno? I have a sedan 4 doors with no towing knob.

2) Where is a good area to rent? (Preferably, apartment without lease, close to UNLV.)

3) Where do professional local people in the mid 20-ish hang out in Vegas? What's the best way to get to know people around in Vegas?

4) Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks,

Vegas has so many free local publications that can help not only tourists but recent residents about the ins and outs of Vegas. Start reading up on these publications and you will see something that'll interest you.

Check out the First Friday Event at the Arts District every first friday of the month. Excellent way to get the feel of the locals. Art, galleries, food, music, street party.......This month's event was a blast, it'll get even better when it gets warmer.

Oh nice, I have always missed First Friday at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago when I moved to Reno.

and for the cheapest way to move. Sell your stuff, move only your clothes and buy new stuff when you get here.

Trust me, I was given that advice three weeks ago and chose to ignore it. Moved from Dallas to Vegas, took 50 feet of tractor/trailer space and more stress than I thought was possible to ship my stuff.

It's not worth it...unless of course you have grandma's furniture that you just can't part with. And even then, consider selling it!

and consider scrapping the clothes cause chances are they aren't right for this climate[as attested to by the $700 sheepskin coat that languishes in my closet for the last 25 years]

Get on the plane with an overnight case and start fresh,
