Hello Vegas residents-

I have a few questions I'm hoping to have help getting answers to. I have an opportunity to relocate to LV for a job with my employer, and I'm feeling like I'm in need of a change of scenery and pace.
So my questions are:

1. How bad is the crime really? The stats provided on the LV page seem rather staggering!
2. What is there to do on a regular basis for a 34 year old male in LV (keeping off the strip)?
3. Are snakes, scorpions, cockroaches and spiders a concern? (Not to sound naive, but it is the desert)
4. Could someone from Minnesota fall for LV?
5. Is there a downtown with different districts?
6. Is there a general acceptance of all races, or are there class/race issues? (I embrace different cultures; they're important to me)
7. Are people friendly and where would you go to meet new people?
8. Where are the nice areas of town to live in and visit? What areas should be avoided?
9. Are there city parks, museums, art houses, bike/walking paths, etc in LV?

Thanks for any and all help with answers to my questions. Have a wonderful day!

All of our parks, museums, houses, bike trails, shelters, 7-11s, schools, colleges, freeways, churches and nuclear power plants are embedded in this....

So my questions are:

1. How bad is the crime really? The stats provided on the LV page seem rather staggering! About the same as any town of 2 million.
2. What is there to do on a regular basis for a 34 year old male in LV (keeping off the strip)? What ISN'T there to do? It's the most exciting city in the world. But what's wrong with the Strip? Do you actually know what the Strip is?
3. Are snakes, scorpions, cockroaches and spiders a concern? (Not to sound naive, but it is the desert) NO! It's a city IN a desert. Never seen or heard of a snake in town. Have seen five scorpions since 1964. Black widows spin webs at night near fences and some bushes, but they won't kill you. Roaches come out on sidewalks at night. Most people have exterminator services. Unless you are in another desert community, wherever you are now you have 1000 times more bugs than we do. We don't get rain or humidity so bugs are not a problem. If you are in MN you'll be pleased that we seldom see a mosquito, and fleas don't live in the desert, so your dogs will love it here.
4. Could someone from Minnesota fall for LV? Most do. A handful don't.
5. Is there a downtown with different districts? There is a downtown but it's probably not what you're thinking about. No idea what you mean by districts. Probably not, whatever it is.
6. Is there a general acceptance of all races, or are there class/race issues? (I embrace different cultures; they're important to me) We want you to stay away from our wimmin. Other than that, Nevada is known for it's live and let live atmosphere. No serious racial problems. Biggest problem is nobody notices anyone else.
7. Are people friendly and where would you go to meet new people? Friendly if you can get to know them, but gettng to know people is not easy.
8. Where are the nice areas of town to live in and visit? What areas should be avoided? Asked and answered in 100 other threads. Too much to give a quick answer to.
9. Are there city parks, museums, art houses, bike/walking paths, etc in LV? Of course. It's a big city.

Thanks for any and all help with answers to my questions. Have a wonderful day!
See answers above in red.

So my questions are:

1. How bad is the crime really? The stats provided on the LV page seem rather staggering! I live in Green Valley (6 years now) & I have not experienced any crime.
2. What is there to do on a regular basis for a 34 year old male in LV (keeping off the strip)? Hiking, bicycle riding (road & off road), softball leagues, etc
3. Are snakes, scorpions, cockroaches and spiders a concern? (Not to sound naive, but it is the desert) I have not seen any, inside that is
4. Could someone from Minnesota fall for LV? If you're tired of the cold, yes
5. Is there a downtown with different districts? There is a Chinese area with restaurants etc, dunno about the others
6. Is there a general acceptance of all races, or are there class/race issues? (I embrace different cultures; they're important to me) Generally if you stay out of the most crime ridden area of the valley everyone will leave you be
7. Are people friendly and where would you go to meet new people? People are friendly here. Bars if you're into that or the other activities above would be a start
8. Where are the nice areas of town to live in and visit? What areas should be avoided?
9. Are there city parks, museums, art houses, bike/walking paths, etc in LV? Lots of parks & walking paths

Thanks for any and all help with answers to my questions. Have a wonderful day!

Thank you everyone who posted replies with genuine answers. As I'm sure there are many other posts asking "some" of the same questions which I've posted, the threads on the posts I did look through had a LOT of posts from users about unrelated topics- in other words, there was a lot of digression, off-topic conversations and I didn't want to search forever fishing for answers (we all have our reasons for the things we do, right?). I figured if anyone wanted to respond to my post, they would... and they have, and again I thank you all for doing so.
von949- that picture is insanely beautiful!! Thanks for posting
Buzz123- you're awesome. I appreciate your replies greatly. And what I meant by keeping off the strip was what else is there to do besides the strip? I'm not anti-strip since I've never been and I'm not making assumptions about what I'm not familiar with. And why are people so unfriendly there and impersonal? Have you a conclusion on that?

The people for the most part are nice. Some are stuck up, some are too friendly and will follow you home. Be friendly and people will respond. Wait til hell freezes over to say hi to someone or your neighbors and they will think you are stuck up, cold, impersonal and unfriendly.

You have to understand the loco locals...they pounce on these kinds of posts and you have to admit, some are quite funny. They mean you no harm, they are just having fun. It helps to entertain the rest of us.

Also, in the insanely beautiful photo above, all of the walking, biking and other trails are way out in the distance all around the valley. And just think of Las Vegas like any other city in the country. We just have a lot of casino's. We have just about everything you need to live a good life here. Always be aware of your surroundings, keep your doors locked, install an alarm system or get a barking one. And you should be ok.

The strip can sometimes be considered a "walking trail". At least that's what it looks like when I drive by.
