Movers will be here Friday morning for the move to Henderson. I think everything is taken care of and should be smooth sailing

BUT

I've never moved cross country. Are there any lessons learned from those who have done this that I should to be aware of?

Thanks
Lisa

Movers? Sell everything and buy new stuff. Then you don't have to move it. And, it will help the local economy.

Pack a bag of clothes for a week so you don't have to worry about finding things when you're already moved in, but haven't unpacked boxes.

Keep a separate box of cleaning supplies ready to go and a bucket.

Take lots of pictures of friends and family, and so that you can make a photo album at a later date of all the states you drove through.

Agree with bledsoe on the furniture if possible....RC Willey has a great deal going on.. a living room set for $1,999 which includes sofa/loveseat combo or a sectional, coffee table, two end tables, pillows, rug, and a 60inch flat screen HDTV!

Most of all, have fun knowing you're moving to one of the most exciting cities in America! Welcome home!

Buy a small cooler for snacks, drinks, and lots of water while in the car.

I have probably done at least 10 cross country moves in my life. I always made sure I never owned too much stuff that would not fit in my car. The major move to Vegas in 2004 I sold off everything first.

Thanks for all your tips. Hockeygirl, your advice is especially appreciated! I can't imagine having to dig through boxes frantically trying to find stuff!

...BUT there is no way I'm selling my furniture! I've spent 20 years carefully selecting most of my pieces and I'd rather not move than to sell my armoire from Thailand!!

When you get here avoid In-N-Out burgers.

I've made several cross country moves, which involved moving companies. The reputable companies are pretty good, however, things do get lost from time to time. Don't let the movers take anything, that you can't afford to lose. I'm talking about financial records and personal items, such as family pictures. Everything else can be insured and replaced, but you don't want to lose anything of sentimental value, and you don't want to try to reconstruct your finances from memory.

Good luck, and enjoy the journey.

On this one I severely disagree with you. The burger bar (especially the Kobe beef selections) is 10 times better than In and Out. I have been to both and there is no comparison.
