I recently moved to vegas as a travel nurse. Upon discovering that my bus route would be too dangerous to take at night my husband suggested that I purchase a moped to get back and forth to work and such. The only bad thing about that is there are other sights I would like to see, but will have to hitch a ride with coworkers to see them.

Has anyone ever used a moped for transportation in LV? How did you keep it from getting stolen? From what I understand as long as it's 50ccs or under I don't have to get a special license-right?

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated!

I agree with dynimage. A moped is MORE dangerous than the bus. A friend of mine bought one a couple years ago, and he ended up getting hurt really bad. You can buy a cheap car for the same price as a moped. That is a much better and safer option IMO. I know I sure as hell would not ride one in this city.

I wouldn't ride a real motorcycle in this city. If you watch how other driver's tailgate motorcycle riders you won't want to ride one.

You would have to be certifiable to ride a freaking moped in this city.

ugh...more bad news! I have to take the charleston bus...people told me it gets bad at night. And it did look pretty shady during the day. idk what to do. Maybe I should just get a bike (not motorcycle) then...I was only looking to pay 500 for a moped. I don't think i can get a reasonable car for that price.

I agree about the motorcycle thing. It seems like half the accidents I see here involve a motorcyclist being rolled away on a stretcher or lying in a body bag. Scary stuff.

I paid exactly $500 for my 1991 Ford Escort 2 and a half years ago. It is a beater, but VERY reliable. Trust us here, I do not see even one person who thinks the moped is a good idea. Seriously, this is sin city with tons of drivers that are either drunk or doped up on meds. It is not worth your life to save a few dollars on auto insurance to get a moped OR bicycle. In fact, I feel riding a bicycle is even MORE dangerous than a moped for the simple reason that they are slower and impede traffic.
