Can anyone recommend a good national moving company for long haul moves? Please let me know if you've had a good experience with a company. Thanks!

We have done several cross country trips with professional movers, United Van Lines, North American Van Lines, Allied, Mayflower, and most recently Wheaton Worldwide Moving.

My favorite so far has been North American Van Lines, but that is because they moved us 3 times and I got to know the local (Tucson, AZ) office staff pretty well.

The frustrating thing is that who packs and loads you may not be the person driving your stuff cross country. Ideally you want your long haul driver there while all your stuff is loaded on the trailer and then that is the driver who will drop your stuff and you will have contact with at your destination. That has only happened 2 times for us out of 12 moves. DH is active duty military. Most of the time its the local staff that packs and loads. Then upon delivery the driver may pick up a helper or 2 from the local office.

Our household goods arrived here in Vegas by Wheaton. The Wheaton driver was okay, not bad, not great. He was a veteran driver with a bit of a "I know everything" attitude. We had not met him in Tucson, AZ. Our stuff had been packed and loaded by the local Tucson, AZ staff. The driver had been in Colorado at the time. He picked up our trailer the next day to drive to San Diego. Our 10,500 lbs of stuff didn't fill a whole trailer so they had packed another 7,000 lbs behind it to deliver to San Diego.

Our trailer with our items pulled out of our Tucson driveway on Wednesday, July 29. We received delivery in Las Vegas on Tuesday, August 4th. The driver had picked up some local Wheaton guys to help unload and assemble furniture. Again, the local Wheaton guys seemed good.

We are at a disadvantage to recommend anyone because the military pays to move us and its a contract we have no control over.

I do know that many times our contact with customer service and the estimator who comes out to the house has been a very good indicator of what kind of moving experience we end up having.

There are websites that list some reviews of moving companies. Pick 3, hopefully well rated, reviewed and recommended, have them come out to the house for an estimate and see what you think.

Depends on how much stuff you have. I used United which where great moving from las vegas to Massachusetts last year but VERY PRICEY. I moved back to las vegas this year and used ABF U-pack and saved thousands. I had approximately 5000 lbs of stuff. There is a good sight called movingscam.com. That is where I found recommendations before I moved both times and the recommendations where right on. Good luck.

We used Mayflower on our last move from Florida to Memphis and we were pretty happy. We have also used United on a cross state move in Florida and they were very good. Both were company moves and again pricey.
Kellie we may be moving soon, I might check out the company you used.
