I think eventually Vegas will get a pro team. a SINGLE team.Vegas IMO can only support one pro franchise. My guess is the NHL will be the first ones to land here. They seem as the most willing organization to take a chance here. Will it work?depends on how well its marketed, how good the team is and if they can get some big names and great players. i've always said the reason those minor league teams have fizzled is just that, minor league. no name recognition. I think the best fit would be the NBA as Vegas seems more a basketball town than anything.but we need an arena that can meet both the NBA and NHL standards. the Thomas and Mack just won't cut it.

Thomas and Mack is not good enough for an NBA team. My city of Memphis had to build a new stadium with taxpayer money, even though there was already a 15,000 seat venue already available. The NBA all star game was held in Vegas last year.

No one is really from Las Vegas, even kids who were born and raised in Vegas have parents from somewhere else, and they identify with that somewhere else. There is also the multitudes of service workers who cannot afford to go to a game, have time to. Most of these people are from somewhere else also. In short, I believe that a majority of working people in Las Vegas do not like living there, and are only there because their job keeps them there.

Then there is the law that one cannot bet on a Nevada team. Would this apply to a pro team? Does Vegas take bets on minor league games (minor league baseball, Arena League football etc.) in or out of the state of Nevada?

Could a sports team compete there, especially with the excess competition of the casino industry? Why haven't the big players there like Steve Wynn looked into a pro franchise?

It is such a transient city that I can't see that happening.

I agree that IF Las Vegas were to get a team from the big 4, it would be NHL first followed by NBA. With that said, this won't happen anytime soon until the new arena is built then there has to be a real fan interest which if it was NHL, I would be the first in line. I don't see it for any of the big 4 right now, let's see how we do with this UFL franchise.

In the meantime, I can enjoy going to Wranglers games and sit right up front

I do not see it happening either.

All star weekends and championship games and tournaments will continue to be held here, and hopefully new ones will come.

LV doesn't really need a team in my opinion. There are so many teams to root for already.. why even bring one in at the tax payer's expense? Keep our taxes low and root for a team from another city.

Sure, it'll happen. Right when Steve Wynn is elected mayor.

I sort of agree. People here are from all over and already have their favorites.

This has never been much of a football town, so my money would be on an NBA team, but I hope not. Look at what happened before. If we could get an indoor stadium football might have more interest, but I agree ─ not with tax payer money. Baseball would be safer probably. With all the interest in soccer these days I think world class soccer would be a big draw here, although I just don't get what is so interesting about futbol.

It wont happen. People here already have a home team to root for and there are a lot of local bars that cater to fans of any team. Vegas is about tourism and gambling. Sports teams and "real city" type of stuff like museums, culture, art, etc... dont seem to be important here.

The more people move to Las Vegas, the more they want to make it just like it was back home.
