Hi folks - I am currently going to school to be a certified pharmacy technician and will be done in November. My fiancee and I are looking to get out of the crappy state of Virginia. I have been doing a lot of job searches for pharmacy technicians and it appears there are a lot of opportunities in Vegas for this field of work.
My fiancee and I are planning a trip to Vegas in August to check things out and see if we can stand the heat.

This would be a huge move for us. Does anybody out there have any advice for me?

Thanks airics. This is a very big move for us, so we really want to make sure we can both get jobs. People in Virginia are so self absorbed and a lot of them seem to be racist. We need a new change of scenery and people.

The heat here is really not that bad. I am from Phoenix, Arizona, and I can tell a difference because the humidity is so much lower here. Plus, the winters are far better than Virginia. It only snows here once ever couple years, even then it only lasts one day.

Las Vegas drunk - thanks for the info. Do you know anyone that works in the casinos? My fiancee is a webmaster, but he doesn't really want do to that line of work anymore. He was thinking of maybe getting a job as a dealer. Do you know if it's difficult to get a job at the casinos? We are coming out Aug 17 to stay for a week and do some research. Just wondering if you might could give some info that might help. We don't know anyone out there.

Thanks! :-)

I personally do not work for a casino. I have talked to dealers, and he will have to start what is known as a "break in casino" which will be for low pay. After he gets experience, he can move up to the better and more affluent casinos. However, the recession has really hit the dealers hard as far as tips, so the days of making $100,000 a year as a dealer are gone. The link below will explain how to start as a dealer.

You get the same self absorbed BS here. People are people whereever you go. Vegas attracts people from everywhere so you can find people you like - you just have to look for them. Just make sure your fiancee can get employment here. My wife was masters prepared in her field (computer science). There were no ops for here in legacy/ mainframe systems. She retrained in another field to get work.
