I never thought about trying the buffet at the Rio. I actually don't think I've been inside since the first time I visited LV, which was about 10 years ago at least. I'll definitely stop by next time. I just got back from LV last weekend. I go often though, especially in the past few years probably about 3-4 times a year. I am finding myself eating at the same restaurants over and over, so it's time I look for more I can actually afford. I try to go whenever my Aunt or girl friend’s mom is in town because they get everything comped, but of course, when I’m by myself I can’t afford those places $130 for a Red Cod at Pearl you crazy!

They are owned by The Cheesecake factory, so they have a similar menu. I think the food is slightly better at the Luxe, but it's also slightly more expensive. Check out their website, I think they have the menu there.

Thanks for the all the recommendations so far, I'm writing them down for the summer.

Paris is a great place. Very nice inside and a beautiful view of the strip and the Belagio fountains. Las Vegas Hotel Reservations at Paris Las Vegas

We also loved the piano bar at Harrahs.

I will +1 for Mon Ami Gabi.. definitely one of my favs...

Also worth mentioning is Dos Caminos, in the Palazzo (outstanding Mexican food!). I've also heard great things about Don Miguels, over at the Orleans.

If you're willing to head a little bit down LVBS, there are some great restaurants over at Town Center.. Yard House, Claim Jumper, Brio... there's a new one that opened upstairs near Yard House, I can't think of the name right now, but I believe it's next to Blue Martini (which is also excellent, and they have a great happy hour).

If you're willing to go a bit off the strip, Gordon Biersch is also very good (there's one over on Paradise, near Hard Rock, although I've only been to the one up in Summerlin).

I've also heard favorable reviews about Cafe Bellagio (the coffee shop in the Belagio, right off the atrium/conservatory), not too expensive either.. of course, if you want to spend a little $$, Bartolotto's over at the Wynn is definitely worth it!

There's a really good mexican restaurant in TI called "La Isla". They have this dish called Steak Pyramid that is awesome. I'm in town on Friday night and I can almost taste it...!

Also if you want an upscale restaurant without a huge bill, go to the lounge area of Bradley Ogden (in Caesars) and get the burger. Probably the best burger I ever ate.

Yes, the Rio seafood buffet was great in the '90's but not the same when I tried it recently. My favorite Strip buffet is without a doubt, the Bellagio. I'm also in disagreement about their coffee shop being good. Couldn't wait one morning to order banana nut bread french toast and it was ruined so badly it couldn't be eatten. There's a wonderful little french bakery in Paris, probably even better than the baked goods that used to be available at the Rio.

hey aqua - I have been wanting to try the Togoshi Ramen place, since it's pretty close to where I work. Any idea if they have any vegetarian-based dishes there (including the stock they use for the soup)?

jjameson, there is also, in Paris (past the casino area, in the streets area), an amazing (from what I've heard, I've never tried it), cafe that specializes in all sorts of crepes. perhaps it's called "le creperie" or something like that. i've been told by many to have their desert crepes, but usually i'm so stuffed after dinner, that I can't even walk over there.

sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience at the cafe. I've heard so many good things about the buffet, i'm going to have to try that one (at the bellagio).

Yes, I forgot to mention the Creperie in Paris. It is wonderful. And the Bellagio buffet runs around $29.95 p/p. I have many off Strip restaurants to recommend but since you're looking to stay on Strip, opposite of what I do, I can't recommend that many from experience.
