They were in the dog run area. And my dogs are stupid enough to sniff and play with them. I'll never forget those little spiders, they had such heart.

Nobody ever said that ticks don't live in the desert. It's just that we don't have fleas. We've always had ticks. I've only known of one dog that died as a result of a tick bite though, and that was about 30 years ago.

There are fleas on Mt. Charleston, but none of my dogs ever got them, and we hiked up there a lot. We did find a couple of ticks from hiking up at Eagle Valley.

But, if you ever go backpacking on Mt. Charleston, make sure you don't spread your bedroll on a ground squirrel, or mouse's nest or you could get the plague. Not a likely thing to have happen though, but since y'all like these non-issues...

Lyme Disease isn't much of a problem but it has happened. More so up north than in Clark County. If you've ever shot, then dragged/carried a deer for about a mile back to the Jeep, you would have seen about 3000 ticks. I wonder how they live with all those ticks on them.
