It sounds like you dont understand the definition of "modern" either. It does not necessarily mean new. Something can be new construction and not modern at the same time. It sounds like you don't understand that and seem to think modern only means new. The opposite of modern is obsolete, not old.

Go read the quote of the dictionary definition in my post you apparently failed to read but want to insult me over. My quote of the definition came right from Webster's. To use your words, maybe you should get a "better grasp" of the English language.

so who knows how many air-leaks i have, as well as all the other somewhat modern houses

why aren't most houses and roofs white? does that not make a difference?
I also look at the sea of brown roofs and wonder why they are not all white. A friend in Texas painted over her shingles with marine white paint(made for boats) and she said her energy usage dropped by almost 20%.

I think I will ask about this. I have been curious forever!

There are plenty of dogs in Las Vegas and we have one as well. Although we do not leave our dog outside and she gets a bit fat in the summer because we don't take her out much. You have 9 glorious months of fantastic weather here. Remember to keep your dog well hydrated and offer plenty of shade. Also, something that I see many people forget is that the cement gets ridiculously hot for your dogs paws. Get them used to booties for the hot summer.

Yeah but a dog doesn't need it to be 72. I'd think nothing of 82 during the day (I have a dog in Texas) except it's too hard/takes too long to pull down when I get home.

The rocks. They figure it out eventually. not much fun cleaning it up from the rocks, though.
