wow, no one on this site really knows what they are talking about. I am positive none of you are industry professionals. I heard a few say that UNLV is not a great school for hotel management, yet all the major hotel chains and top hotel management companies recruit from UNLV.

Hey, excellent first post, newbie. Great game plan! Sign up on C-D, search out an old thread from 2008-2009, find a couple of posts with which you disagree, and then flame the entire community. Great way to introduce yourself!

BTW, on this entire 8-page thread, I believe that there were 2 people that disagreed with the majority who were saying that UNLV is one of the top two schools in the nation for hotel management. And neither one of them post here any longer.

What are your thoughts on the Masters of Science in Hospitality Administration program at UNLV? I was going to do the dual MBA program, but I am thinking I will do the Masters in Hospitality first and then go to a top 30 school for the MBA. Seems that the MBA from UNLV isn't worth much beyond Nevada.

I was looking at the dual MBA as well. I went the route of getting my BA in Finance but enjoy the many dimensions of hospitality. I would most likely use the MBA to advance throughout the casino industry so in my case it seems like a good idea.

Also for the earlier post who spoke about getting an Masters in Finance... while that sounds like a good idea, IMO it would be a difficult path to take. Even though I have the BA in Finance I feel like I wouldn't be able to have the momentum to finish a MBA in Finance. I also remember the Hospitality managers at my school struggling with basic probability in the setting of casino games... The math is much more difficult once you reach those upper level finance courses. But if there is a will there is a way!

That's good. We've lived in Las Vegas for 30 yrs. Just be very careful & don't frequent the neighborhood around the college. Not safe. Where you live is very important in Las Vegas.

The neighborhood around the college is not safe at all. Lived here 30 yrs. It's nice but where you live and where you go is important.
