I wouldn't get hung up on rankings overall but by program. You've mentioned in other threads that you want to do the Hospitality degree so UNLV is the place for you. If you plan to stay in NV then UNLV will get you in the door a few more times than an outside university. And then there's the private institutions...there's a big schism between your state institution and the big names. A degree is a degree, it's a matter of your work ethic and competence after that degree opens the door for you.

Focus on doing well and finding exactly what you want to do. It's going to be hard, especially with your talk of working full time and 15 hours. It can be done but just as easily going year round with a balanced schedule of 9 hours with one semester of 12. Use the first two years to take the general requirement classes while investigating each school to see what appeals to you. After your first 60, you'll pick the college that you have the most interest in and excel at that.

Again, best of luck to you.

Well, UNLV does offer a hotel management degree, However, you might be better off to study in a city with top hotels. LV has NO hotels in the top 100 worldwide, and only a handful of the top hotels in the US. It may not be important to study, and train at the top hotels in world, same as a medical degree from India seems to work just fine in LV. Good luck.

You're forgetting the MOST important thing Sheriff, with the young people wanting to attend UNLV...that all the top hotels in the world are not in VEGAS!

It's Las Vegas, not the school, that draws them...you know that, right?

Exactly my point. Aside from poker players, and hookers, those at the top of their profession, or seeking such, are not in LV. Until LV can draw industry not related to service, the cycle will remain unbroken.

We've had that discussion before Sheriff, another "industry" ain't ever gonna happen in LV.....

And UNLV will continue to draw students from all over the world simply because of it's location...and nothing more.

Same thing with UNR, but to a lesser degree...(pun not intended)

It isn't a piece of crap...just not the best academically ranking university in the country.

That's the truth, there's nothing derogatory about that
