alot of the furniture here is from the model homes, so it rarely shows any wear... plus to save 60-80% is great

I can kinda understand not buying used upholstered stuff, my hubs has a little ocd when it comes to clean so it is a struggle to get him to even sit at friends houses but hopefully it will only be a temp solution. Since we will be in extended stay hotel for aprox 3-4 mos for us it's just not worth the $$ to move 4yr old furniture and then store it for that long. We did that before (moved an hr away to live with inlaws) and paid storage fees for this same furniture for a year, I've already spent more than I wanted to storing this junk, I won't do it again. Besides the sale will pay for 2mos of hotel bills.

Well, I don't really mind sitting on other peoples stuff, but I guess when it is mine, I want to lay around and I just feel weird laying on other peoples stuff. Now, I will have to buy a dining set and I will be looking for used. And maybe a small desk. Not sure what else will fit when I get there either.

That's great that you got that much for your stuff. My LR furniture is only a year old so I don't think I could get enough to make it worth it to sell or I would love to do that. I wish I had enough money to buy new! Maybe Oprah would share some of hers. (just a little)

Kimba, you are coming from Detroit area right?

I used 1 relo Cube. Be careful. Those things are tiny.

Wow! Thanks, Yeti, for posting the pic. I was trying to get a visual and was just talking to my husband about it this morning. That is definitely too small. My sofa is almost 8 feet! Hmmm. I am calling for moving co. quotes today to see what they come in at. I don't know if I will ever get this right!

The one thing that I did not look into was moving companies. The reason is that I thought they would be much, much higher. I just called around and while they do not like giving phone estimates because they move by weight, I told the one place what I am moving as far as furniture and she gave me a rough est. of around $3200-$4000. Low end at 3000lbs up to the high end of 5000lbs. They come to your home and wrap all your furniture, disassemble beds and load everything. Same at the destination. I am seriously thinking this is the way to go. Especially since I would have to hire guys to load for me. May just save my back.

One drawback, they could take from 5-15 days for the transport. Depends on there routes. She said they will know better on the loading day. Plus, right now they are so busy, the next open week is the week of Aug. 11th.

Anyway, just another method to consider. I have an estimator coming out on Tuesday.

make sure you watch the price because think of this...

the truck gets 5 miles per gallon at 55mph, 4 at 65mph.... that means they will use at least 400 gallons of gas (basing on 2000miles) at over $5 per gallon for diesel.. = $2000 + tolls each way PLUS they havent paid the driver yet which is another 50 cents per mile.. so you have $3000 right there... they arent going to pack at departure and unpack at destination for $200 and thats each way, maybe they can pick up a load for the return trip. otherwise they r screwed

Oh, their trucks are huge and they do multiple shippings in each truck. She told me that. That is why the range in time to travel. They have to figure out their route. I suppose it is just like the ABF trailers only I don't have to load or unload.

They do have to honor their estimate (the one when they come here to do a walk-thru)don't they?

So, you are thinking that this price will be alot higher or should be anyway?

I definitely appreciate your insight, I know you just went through all this too.

Nope, that is why they call it an estimate. They underestimated us last year when they came out and it cost me an extra $500. Over all though, I was glad I chose a mover. It was one less headache to worry about. When I had considered packing up a truck or pod myself, I can tell you no one wanted to jump on the bandwagon and help us load. And of course there was no one on this end to help us unload. Our truck got here 3 days after us and had everything unloaded in around 2 hours.

i would also get the mover, just figure an extra $500-$700... i remember the stories on dateline when the movers would hold your furniture hostage until you paid up... make sure you check the movers reliability.
