RTC agrees with you. It has been moving them back at least since the Smoke Ranch accident. Note though it is not always practical. And it was only in the last legislature that the RTC got the neccessary authority to use eminent domain to place the shelters. Before that they had to stay on public right of way which limited the traffic separation.

Sidewalks are also 3 feet from the road. I don't see why it's too much to expect that drivers refrain from driving up onto sidewalks and driving into bus stops. How is it the fault of the bus stop for being too close the road? That seems like the proper place for one, if you ask me.

I do think that all bus stops should have shelters, which they currently do not. In addition to protecting them from the sun, this will also help protect people from drunk drivers, even though it is still the driver's responsibility to remain on the road and not kill pedestrians.

I always thought that the curb was the "Right hand Limit" of your driving space.

I've sat at many bus stops, where it was just a bench and your feet were on the curb, and you not only had to be careful of cars, but also bikes...

desertsun41, I heard you finally tried out our bus system. Now you can give us an informed opinion!
