I moved from Santa Barbara... which to many is the ideal part of CA... and I'd still take LV any day.

My main complaints were:

-It was too cold to ever go into any pool or the ocean.
-No grocery stores or even drug stores (yes even walgreens) were open past midnight, with the exception of ONE, which was downtown
-No Target or Walmart within 40 miles
-Million dollar median home price... I actually toured a home selling for $950,000 that was smaller and more run down than my parents' $85,000 house in Iowa (and no its not a farmhouse, it's in a 300,000 population metropolitan area, nice, quiet neighborhood, close to schools, etc.) And the SB house was in a super crappy area with no view or anything and on a large street. I only toured it because it was so hard to believe, I definitely don't have a million bucks floating around.
-Crappy weekend parking downtown
-You needed to take the freeway to get anywhere
-It was as if they ignored the fact they had a yearly rainy season and built nothing to drain properly, even the streets
-Not to mention the whole area I lived shortly ago is evacuated at this very moment and in very real danger of being burnt to a crisp... that's a negative, lol.

I guess I knew I was making the right choice moving to Vegas when it was 90 degrees in Santa Barbara one day and everyone at work including customers kept saying "it is SOOOO hot!" and "it's AWFUL outside" whereas everytime I walked out the doors I thought it was WONDERFUL.

We just did the same thing with a trip back to NJ from GA. We all flew up a few weeks ago, I stayed 5 days, and the wife and kids stayed another 2 weeks. Man, was I happey to get back- nothing ever changes up there- especially not for the better. When they landed back in Atlanta, you could see the look of relief on their faces that they were finally back "home"- even though we've only lived in GA for a little less than a year now, no one has any qualms about calling it "home" (something the wife could never really bring herself to do over 8 years in NJ after living in LV and LA).
