You must be crazy to leave a Dept of Ed job in NY. What are they like the 2nd highest paying Education Dept in the country? 2nd only to NJ. But that fantastic rate of pay got you know where in high cost NY I know.

I wish you luck my friend. Things ain't too good here. Many on this forum have some pretty high hopes when all these new mega resorts open up but Im skeptical. I truely believe all those $8/hr jobs will burden our economy more then help it. Who's going to be able to afford to shop all those high end retail stores? Who wants to get into that ferocious strip traffic to get to work? Not us locals.

Several new school projects have been put on hold here because our Governer makes too many text messages to his girl friends but there are still a few being built. You should have an advantage over others getting hooked into a job at one of them. But they are some time away still and you need something now.

I have my mitts into so many different things and know so many people in so many areas but I still have no advice for you that you want to hear.

Is that NY job still there for you?

Do you by chance have a teaching degree? Or at least teaching certification? If so, you should be able to find a job as a teacher. We desperately need those.

Get the Sunday Review Journal and hunt.

Las Vegas is in a recession.

I'm a computer programmer and I had to take a job out of my field to
pay the bills.

I've lived here thirty years.

Good Luck

I moved here on April 14th from NYC. I used to be a corrections officer on Rikers Island. So far I have no regrets. The police Department is almost always hiring, both for metro and north las vegas. Good luck, and welcome.

I have to move out of Vegas to find a job. If you were smarter, you should have done your research about Vegas. Tons of people on this forum complain about employment here.
If possible, and if your job is available for you to come back to NY...go back.

Sorry

Here you go. I even took the trouble of sorting out the links you should read in order, and pasted the office addresses below. I'm afraid you'll have to do the rest.

We love Vegas and about 20 years ago thought about moving there. At that time, to teach, you needed to be certified in at least two areas. That may have changed, but most schools need staff to be able to handle multiple responsibilities.
