If everyone had cars that got 30+ mpg (mixed driving) I think it would help your gas budget a little.
I was laughing about this just today. I was stopped at a red light. Well hey I never made a green light in 10 years here. Anyway there is a used car lot on the corner and I noticed the entire lot was all SUVs and full sized PU trucks. They even had a boat, twin jet skies on a trailer and a boat. In the front corner they had 2 small cars up on ramps with flags and bright lettering.

I also notice many people slowed down even slower then they already drove. Lately I pass some on 95 doing 45MPH. I feel doing 20 MPH under the already artificialy low speed limits is more of a hazard then doing 20 over.

My friend just tried to trade in his 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummings Diesel truck 4x4. NO DEALER IN TOWN WANTED IT! so he's stuck with it. What he did was buy a honda civic, and stuck the truck in the garage.

Well I'm sorry to say but expect gas to go even higher. A barrel of oil just hit nearly $140 on Friday, which is just insane. Expect the price increase to be passed on to gas stations soon.

Worse, some analysts see oil hitting $150 by July 4th. Roughly speaking, you can divide the price of oil by 27.5 and get a ballpark figure for what gas will cost at the high end in states like California:

$150/27.5 = $5.45 gas!!!

Yikes!

My neighbor just bought a hybrid Chevy Tahoe. The first thing I said to him jokingly was, why did you buy that for the same price GM would have given you 3 or 4 Hummers. Maybe he didn't think it was funny the next day I came home he removed the many hybrid decals and badges GM put all over the thing. Now if you look at it you would never know it is a hybrid.

Tonight CBS News says we will see $6/gallon in the coming months. They said the price we're paying right now comes from when oil was $90/barrel. With the recent surge in prices, it's headed higher to $6.

Prepare!

This might be a good thing. It force people to conserve, carpool or take the bus. The local motorcycle/scooter dealers cannot keep the 100mpg bikes in stock and the Toyota dealer cannot even provide enough Prius cars to the consumer. This really might be the end of the SUV as we know it.

I predict oil will surely hit $150 per barrel and that is where it will stabilize. What is really sad is that when I see $3.50 for E-85 and think "wow, thats a great price". In a few months we will be paying $5.45 a gallon and will be thinking "remember when gas was only $4.00? Those were the days". The oil companies have been warming us up to these prices for a while now.

I think it is going to be rough for people to get used to and will drastically change the way we live our lives. Hopefully we will change in positive ways.

so glad i didnt get the 5.7 tundra. sure is a nice truck but at 16-18 mpg its going to cost too much at the pump. luckily our taco gets around 24 mpg if you drive like a grandma. but gas prices here are still cheaper than in victorville or los angeles.

the e85 fuel is a joke, you save approx 10-20% off the price of regular unleaded however, your gas mileage drops 25%
