During NFR and other equestrian events, traffic isn't bad around South Point, and parking is still fine. It is nothing like traffic around T-Mobile Arena during a Las Vegas Knights hockey game or near the new Allegiant Stadium for a Raiders game - mostly because South Point isn't really part of "The Strip" even though it is on Las Vegas Boulevard.

It is for me and lots of people here. Great weather, restaurants and lots of things to do. Proximity to many nice places within an 8 hour drive or less. I wouldn't want to live in a "suburb" of Vegas, it takes too long to get here. I looked at Pahrump and Boulder City, too far away for me.

When I lived in Champaign, IL, I made the mistake of moving to a small town 12 miles from there and hated that it took 15 minutes to get to "civilization", lol. When the town you live in has one grocery store and very few restaurants, you have to drive a lot for everything. Where I live in Henderson, I can get to anything I want or need in 5 minutes and it's only 12 miles to The Strip and airport.

When I lived in downtown Chicago, it took 30 minutes to get from my condo to anywhere due to the traffic. It didn't take long for me to realize what a huge mistake I had made. There was a lot do and see, and lots of restaurants within walking distance, but that got old fast especially when the weather was bad which it was most of the time. My car rated for 21 mpg got 8 mpg because most of the time was spent sitting in traffic.

Traffic in Vegas is not bad IMO. It is congested at times in some places, but moves and rarely sits still unless there is an accident. I'm always amazed at how fast things clear up when I see lots of cars moving slowly.

So, bottom line here is a hotel/casino called South Point and the big/major Equestrian Center there.
The northwest area is among the safest areas and has most of the horse properties. It is the east, northeast and areas around the strip that are higher crime areas - Henderson, Summerlin and the areas around South point are low crime areas. Here is a map.

Getting around Las Vegas is not bad so living right near South Point may not be that much of an issue - Henderson is very close and is considered one of the safest cities in the US.

The City run Equine event center - https://www.equineeventlv.com/ - has events on an almost weekly basis and is just north of Henderson.

But, when talking about traffic, you see in and around Denver, Colorado or where we live. Then again, lots of traffic in Vegas is normal due to visitors and the workforce. Vegas sure isn't a retirement city!

But, what we are mainly looking at is South Point and all of the equestrian events that happen at their beautiful Equestrian Center and that the National Finals Rodeo is in Vegas each December. Now, for those not interested in equestrian events, major rodeo or rodeo at all.............we are! We have loved being in Vegas during that rodeo.
You are truly taking this thread into weird directions. We get it, you love the equestrian events. Maybe its a good reason for you to move. If so then just do it. But to come on here and say oh I already know all this stuff about living in Vegas and it is all wrong, what's the point of this all? You have no idea where the traffic is and when and why it happens. You just tell us you know.

Wish you luck but this is getting ridiculous. Are you like some sort of sales person for the South Point???

We were members of an Outdoor Gun & Rifle Club (10 years) and paid $133 a year for the both of us. Where we live currently, it's an indoor range, for small caliber arms and it's $45 for the both of us for an hour. We have yet to go there and shoot, but will be. That "small caliber" includes our 9mm. We asked about it and they said "fine".

When we do go to a Range, we don't shoot much, but for us, enough.

Was also wondering about a Senior Center. We know that Las Vegas is a "working" city, not a retirement city (for to say).
The Clark County Outdoor range will run you $11/day/person or $105 for 12 visits - no need to join - very nice facility.

There is also an indoor gun range that is supposed to run $5 per person for a half hour that allows you to use your gun and ammo - seems pretty cheap - Discount Firearms and Ammo.

We have never lived in Vegas, but sure have been there enough. So, as far as being "all wrong", that's definitely not correct. However, made a mistake in saying it wasn't a retirement city, but many things there cost money and not all seniors get a nice pension from a company.

IOW, we've seen, and been in, the traffic there. So, we know! And, there's absolutely nothing ridiculous about us asking questions, making comments. That's what this Forum site is all about.

I predict you won’t move to Vegas but if you do you will be unhappy.

We predict that you are wrong! That is, if we do move there. Remember, we are necessarily talking about moving into Vegas, but outside of it.

Anyway, just why do you think we’d be unhappy? We really want to know. Thanks!

Because from reading some of your other posts I don’t think you will enjoy a town that large. Also I don’t think you will be a good fit with the culture and people. But maybe I am wrong and you will find your tribe with the rodeo group. Nevada’s COL just keeps increasing although I think Vegas is cheaper than Reno. It’s more expensive to live here than in Chicago.
