Vegas is number one in the nation for teenage suicide.

.
That is the sentence that got me. How can you state that when you don't have any experience raising kids to make that comment!

And by the way I took my 3 year old to the strip to eat. Wow, we didn't see not one naked or half dressed girls or guys for that fact. And we didn't even go into a smoked filled casino! Imagine that!

If you would have said something like "Las Vegas, in my opinion, is not the best reason to raise a child because it consistently ranks in the top 10 in teenage suicide", that point cannot be argued because it is true. That's not what you said, which is where the argument against sensationalism comes in. That being said, you still aren't doing your own research. I won't hound you about it anymore, but the media can and does twist and manipulate stories, particularly stories involving statistics, to sensationalize. I won't say they outright lie or fabricate, and I'm certainly not saying it's a conspiracy. Your condescending tone regarding my position on the media is quite frankly uncalled for. One only has to look at how they report about the economy with particular regard to the housing market to see how they use selective reporting and "twist" statistics to sensationalize. As I said before, I agree that Las Vegas certainly is not without it's share of problems, as anyplace is. Just be accurate.

I never said the issues you brought up were untrue, just that the severity of the issues you brought up according to your unnamed sources or your feelings was untrue. That was my only issue with your post.

O.k regarding the teenage suicide is number 1 in the nation, let me explain it since this is primarily what you are taking issue with... My fiance is a guidance counselor in the school district, she has to attend suicide prevention training and she told me a few weeks ago that Vegas was currently number one in teen suicide... I asked her tonight how she knows this because people are flipping out, and she said it's written in her 08' suicide prevention manual for guidance counselors, I'll have her bring it home on Monday and I'll scan it in... maybe she misread it, I don't know we'll see... If it isn't number one then I will apologize for saying it.

Other than that, what else have I said that is not accurate, or grossly exaggerated?

The condescending tone was because I felt like you were dismissing everything I was saying just because I referenced the review journal. The guys at the RJ have access to info that we don't, If I could find the actual sources they have for current stats then I would post them. If you think the RJ is spinning or sensationalizing data in any of the articles I posted then you could probably contact them and ask them for a source.

That was the main thing that I would say was not accurate. There was just a certain generalization in your original post, an overall negative tone that did not sit well with me. Again, I believe that we have misunderstood each others points from the beginning. I think that the cons could have been worded a little differently, as opposed to the certainty they were posted with. Call me a stickler, but context and intent mean entirely 2 different things and I believe that you should say exactly what you intend to say and if you claim it as certainty or fact you must be prepared to back it up 110%. I definitely think that Vegas has it's problems, and have never maintained that it was anything more than what it is. If I could pick and choose, I would take the school system of Bellevue, WA, the amenities of SoCal, and the close knittedness of a place like League City, TX. Unfortunately it does not work that way and compromise must be made no matter where you go. That being said, I do apologize for jumping down your throat. Who knows, perhaps we can work together to address the issues that have been brought up and bring about some change.

Maybe I shouldn't have said horrible, but I think it's pretty bad, and having a fiance who's a guidance counselor here, I get to hear 1st hand horror stories on a daily basis.

Are you telling me you've never once been with your kid/or kids and cut through a casino where people are smoking and cocktail waitress behinds are all over the place? That's never happened? I see parents doing this all the time.

I don't remember but the last time my daughter was in a Casino was last year, and I don't believe I saw any Butts, some cleavage though, which I probably show just as much in some of my shirts! Gotta them flaunt them! If my daughter takes after me, shes going to have to learn! I see much worse dressed people just going to the grocery store!

You just made it sound like all of Vegas lives on the strip or in a Casino, which is so not true.

I'm not saying people live on the strip or in casinos, but I go to the casinos on a fairly regular basis (mainly redrock) not for gambling, but for movies... alot of locals do and they bring their kids. The thing about the cocktail waitresses is that they're objectified, and I don't think it's the greatest thing for kids to be exposed to

It's the real world, you see it everywhere and they have to learn about it at some point, you can see it just on the TV. If you shelter your children and then when they do get into the real world, they will be in for a real culture shock, and it might make their life worse because you sheltered them!

It's all good, misunderstanding and overreaction on both parts.. I think I'll probably be moving in a year though... not because I don't like Vegas anymore, but because I love the ocean, and I've always wanted to live near the beach I'm thinking Fort Lauderdale Florida is looking pretty good as far as crime rate, cost of living, culture and nightlife

I have family in So. Florida (Broward county/Dade) and they tell me that crime is bad and the cost of living is high? Culture wise, its a heaven for Spanish speaking people. Then again, they have never lived in LA or SF so they might be just saying that from their general experiences. So. Florida is nice though esp. if you have a boat.

Well you certainly won't be happy there. Violent Crime rate is 989 per 100,000 versus Las Vegas's 983. Property crine in Ft. Lauderdale is 9987 per 100,000. The Vegas property crime rate is about half that - 4667.

If you are sensitive to crime you stay out of FL and certainly S. FL.
