Last time I was in LA's downtown I thought it was a third world country. So sad. Blocks and blocks and blocks of people living in the streets. Skid Row is now a full neighborhood!

Not that I've ever been there...but I have heard there are hundreds of
homeless living in tunnels under Las Vegas.

Not in Las Vegas. You are referring to the Las Vegas Wash.

This is a confusing thread. The tunnel dwellers are in Las Vegas I do believe. At least they are in the Las Vegas, NV metro area! Sad reality.

Let's remember most visitors don't rent cars when they come to Vegas so a great public transportation system would be welcome by many especially as our foreign tourists who are used to fine public transportation systems. I think some people think our housekeepers teleport to our house to clean it for us. Appear and disappear a few hours later. Abracadabra!

As to your second point I think it's a bit of a stretch to call streets and highways a "stupid expenditure." I would say they are a pretty necessary part of our modern society. Maybe 100 years ago we should have instituted better public transportation options but we didn't in most cities so streets and highways, though expensive, are pretty necessary.
Not always socioeconomically stratified. I rode the bus virtually every day in 2019 and my AGI for that year was 76K. Personal choice. As I have often said, it depends on your frame of reference and what you may have tolerated and endured in other cities.

Frustration ad infinitum riding a Brooklyn bus.

Also no ice here to worry about breaking your leg if a pedestrian/public transit user.

I enjoyed blending in like a chameleon with the common folk and riding the bus. My bank account thanked me as well.
