Hi everyone I have been reading through this forum for awhile.
I'm 22 and graduated from MATC in Madison, WI.
I got my acceptance letter for both UNLV and UW-Stout for hospitality and tourism. I have a year under my belt in hotel management.
I'm looking at renting a house in Summerlin.
My questions are

-Can I find a job in management in a big hotel while at Unlv?
-Is the hotel program worth the out of state price?
- I been reading alot of crime activity online
- parking at UNLV
-cheese do you guys have a good selection brats etc.. Corn on the Cobb fresh produce, etc..
Any help would be great
im really excited I have never been to vegas but im a single male and well educated professional who is very motivated to contribute to the vegas community.

Im posting with my phone so pardon any spacing/ capitalization

Madison has really good schools, low crime but I'm tired of the cold weather and snow, the jobs here are low paying.

You will probably end up working a lower level position while studying, since most of the management jobs will require long hours that aren't meant for students.

The UNLV hotel school has a very good reputation and you'll get plenty of actual experience in one of the busiest and biggest hotels in the world while you're there (the school requires 1000 hours, I believe). If you are qualified for a management job already, you may not want to go for the degree, since that's most likely the job you'll get once you finish anyway.

Is there any reason you are choosing Summerlin, except other than the fact its very nice? There are many other nice neighborhoods that would be a better value and closer to the Strip and UNLV. Consider zip code 89123.

We do have Brats and corn on the cob. Maybe not your favorite brand from home, but they're here. Cheese curds? You may have to search around for those.

I was thinking summerlin because of the nice houses that are for rent. I have looked at some complexs but there 900 for a one bedroom. When I can rent a small house for 1,200 and not deal with parking spots and noise. I do like the apartments with a pool and fitness center though. But unlv has a terrific new pool and workout facility.
I will look in that zip that you provided because being close to campus would be nice.
out of state tution is 15k can I get this reduced at all.
what about the possibility that I could go to school part time and have a full time managment position.
I was also reading that if I dont have a vegas address and telephone I wont be considered for employment. Could I set up a p.o box to get around that temporarily?

It seems that you can get a pretty decent job with your current credentials provided you're willing to work any shift. Once you get here, change your license and vehicle registration and save your power bills. Find out the exact requirements for residency from the registrar and follow them to a T. Summer school tuition is the same for residents and non residents, so if you take classes during the summers for your first year or so, you can be a resident without having to pay out of state tuition.

There may be certain gen. ed. requirements, such as Nevada history that you havent taken yet. You can take these at CSN for a much lower price.

Great info on saving money on tution. Summer classes are a great idea to reduce costs. How long does it take to become a resident to get the in state tution cost. I will contact the registrar for all resident details.
Another question is how much are stickers/ plate change for personal plates. Or can I somehow keep my plates and just use my parents address to get stickers each year from wisconsin they are $80 a year.
thanks for the help
