That's true. I'm in the conference/convention industry. Definitely not cheap! Locals just get caught up in the fray. One of the disadvantages of living in a convention-oriented and tourist town. I'm sure it is similar in Orlando..

But that is also why we get locals discounts on many things - the prices are jacked up for tourists and convention attendees. My feeling is that it should apply to the parking as well. I don't think enough locals gamble on the strip to make that much of a dent.

FWIW, before we had casa de BH, our favorite hotel was the Rennisance. They were charging $30/day to park (if you weren't a hotel guest) during the big conventions. And this was long before the MGM rumors even started. I suspect the Westgate just followed suit. After all, doesn't the owner have a 100,000 square foot mansion to finish, maids to hire, and doggie doo to pick up? He needs every penny he can get...

We bring them to the Wynn to view the floral displays, parasols, shops, etc.

We bring them to the Bellagio to see the conservatory and chocolate fountain. Sometimes we will walk over to Caesars from there, so we pass by the fountain show, but I usually end up walking back and getting the car to pick them up at Caesars, so we will count that as just parking at the Bellagio.

We bring them to the Venetian to walk along the canals, normally getting something to eat there as well.

In the winter months, we take them to the ice skating rink at the Cosmo.

We take them to Paris to walk the shops, and normally exit through Ballys for the outdoor area there.

That example of a typical night now costs $50 just in parking. Sometimes our guests want to see another specific casino, like Luxor or Excalibur.. tack on another $10 for that.

You may think it's stupid, however many of us think that $50-$60 for a few hours of showing the sites to our guests is a bit much.
And if your guests come and you say sorry it's $10 to park now so we are just taking you to a Stations how well would that go over with them? I don't know about you but when I got guests in Vegas they kinda wanted to see the Strip. Most stayed there, was I going to tell them sorry I know you are in town, but on principle I refuse to pay to park there so I will see you another time?

I never said I wouldn't go and show them the Strip. I just think it's irritating that we have to account for parking now.

I suppose parking at one place and taking the Deuce or the monorail just isn't an option. Oh God, the horror! Public transportation!

People who want things convenient, or to be treated like a big-shot are going to pay more. Nobody -- but NOBODY -- should be surprised this was coming. To quote from one of my favorite movies: "If God didn't want them sheared, He would not have made them sheep."

If the parking fee only affected locals (meaning overnight guests get free parking) that would be a valid point but for people who rent a car or drive into town don't have public transportation as an option since they would have to find a place to park their car in order to start using public transportation, does that mean that the city will start building park and ride lots like other major cities do in order to encourage use of public transportation?

Holy run-on sentence, Batman!

I really don't care what happens to the tourists. Neither do the casinos. It should be quite clear to everyone with a pair of eyes and a working brain that the casinos look at their guests as sheep to be sheared.

Tourists can take a taxi/uber to their resort. Then they can spend their life savings on gaming. What does a $10/day fee matter to someone willing to drop tens of thousands of dollars at a craps table?

The city absolutely will not build park-and-ride garages -- because what's the point? The tourists (and the locals) are going to bend over and take this. They're addicts -- and the price of their fix just went up. Big deal. The city is going to get their cut of gaming revenue. So why should they care?

So you treat the LV strip like it's an museum?

I don't know why you think that this charge won't be a factor in the decision making of potential customers. This is particularly interesting, when we had the discussion a while back, where you stated that casinos look for easy automobile access when choosing casino locations. If drive-in customers are a, or maybe the, major part of their customer base, charging for parking is something that could drive them away.

Seriously, I don't understand the kerfuffle. $10? That's two bets at the cheapest $5 blackjack table. Who cares? It isn't an economic deterrent.
