Yes. That surprises me as well. I would never even think to not rent a car.

Yes it is the problem. So how do we fix it? Taxi drivers not servicing the valley outskirts also serves as an even bigger problem. DUIs. Locals can't rely on taxis and taxi drivers don't make enough money to pick them up. Everyone loses. (Not saying people drink because that can't get a taxi from Henderson, just saying that there is no alternative, so people take risks/chances)

I go to Lee liquors to get my alcohol and Walmart to get snacks and water for the room so I get to avoid paying the mark-up found on stores on the strip. I can utilize my massage membership instead of having to go to a hotel spa. And if for any reason I need to drive on the strip to get to where I need to go, I don't mind sitting in traffic cause I don't have to worry about a running meter. In addition unless the hotels start to charge, parking is never a problem. My biggest dilemma about parking is usually, do I want to be lazy and valet or be cheap and self-park. Heck renting a car even saves me when going to a strip club since if you take your own transportation the club may let you in for free, at least I know it's true at Sapphire
What's the average daily price for an economy car in Vegas these days?

Probably less than a few cab rides.

Anyone I have ever known to come to LV usually needs a taxi TO the strip and FROM the strip. That's about it. But I do understand that there is entertainment off the strip and the strip is 4 miles long so...

If I were in town to go to one meeting, then back to the airport, then I'd utilize a cab. Anything else and I want my own car so that I may do what I want, when I want, on my schedule, without paying a premium.

The strip problem is simple. If you throw three or four thousand Uber cars into the strip it ceases to function. You can no longer go anywhere except by walking. Takes two hours to drive a block on the strip.

This is not make believe it is simple physics. Bunch of bodies running around with an established set of rules. Numbers are limited and various queues are set up to store vehicles out of the way between their runs.

Now throw in a few thousand new vehicles with a different set of rules and the whole thing comes to a halt.

You simply have more vehicles operating in a given structure than it can handle.

Note that a Medallion in NYC is worth just over a million dollars. That gives you the idea of the earning potential of a single cab. And that potential is after costs and paying the driver.

There is speculation that Uber may actually lower the value of an NYC cab medallion. A first in recent times.

How about allowing the Taxi Authority to issue 2k additional taxicab medallions, tax those new medallions and use that to fund the tram that everyone keeps saying is needed?

Close to about $20 a day. I generally pay around $100-$125 for a 4 day trip including all of the fees, some times less. Plus I'm usually splitting that cost with a friend or 2

Yes because it's the cabbies fault people are getting DUIs here.
Wow.
