Of course. My example included that to illustrate the $101 surcharge.

Just subtract that for a smart poor guy.

Forget the surcharge. What does a pack of cigs go for in Vegas nowadays. In NYC, I think it's north of ten bucks.

About $4.

That was never the point. I agreed he should quit smoking. I wanted to illustrate the social engineering built in to this new law. I'm all about slippery slopes. You drink coffee?

You didn't read clutchcargo's hypothetical scenario. He was talking about an unemployed Las Vegas man with no income whatsoever. He was asking what the government was doing for the poor... there is already a plan that addresses this called Medicaid.

Interestingly enough, after you mentioned Medicaid I refined my searches and discovered lots of threads from various forums discussing how to lower, at least on paper, your income so you JUST qualify for free Medicaid healthcare.

So, in this new America, it's a race to the bottom.

Anyone on Medicaid here in LV? My son is not working but has some passive income (interest/dividends) but close to the Medicaid border limits. I would prefer he be able to get an exchange policy with the subsidy as he would have more choice of doctors. From what I know (in Florida anyway) finding a doctor who takes Medicaid is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I am assuming it is similar here in LV. Anyone shed any light on this?

Ok, after a little research on Nevada Medicaid, if my guy has $2001 in assets he's not poor and is not eligible. He doesn't qualify for any subsidies in the exchanges but is required to have health insurance.

I guess that first month's payment would make him eligible for Medicaid?

Most doctors here accept Medicaid. Their reimbursements are actually higher than some of the private plans around here. There are some specialists however, especially for pediatrics, who are not accepting new Medicaid patients.
