You're not going to win any tact awards. But I don't disagree with you...

That was about 100,000 rooms (and a good bit of social change) ago. That model still exists, but Vegas decided to be about mass, so that's what it is now. You can't keep multiple 3-6000 room properties (some of which are not so five star-ish any more) filled at $150/night. And really, there's no reason not to cater to the full spectrum of the market.

There'd be a lot less jobs in Vegas if the casinos followed you model.

People who are only willing to spend $50-$70 on a room most likely aren't willing to spend $10 on a bottle of Bud Light. PLUS tip. Dammit, tip. This is Vegas. Tip your damn bartenders, even a dollar is most appreciated. But no, these people come to the casino bars, put the $20 in the machine and ask for 7-10 complimentary drinks, act like an *******, and don't even leave a single dollar. Then we get full blown families who come in and ask where an arcade area is. This is LAS VEGAS. Arcade? You MUST mean the strip club.

I also don't agree that people who want a cheap room aren't willing to tip. I tip. I prefer to pay as little as possible for my room. Why? Because I will not be in there much at all. Why pay $150 a night for a room that I will not really even see (only there when sleeping)? The less I spend on a room the more I can/will/want to spend elsewhere including tipping when needed.

Assuming that a person who wants a cheap room is POOR (and stingy) is ridiculous IMO.

If you want cheap Freemont Hotels, Circus, or the outlining motels near the drive-thru weddings. Vegas built too many mega hotels to ask for premium rates at all properties. The whole City Center makes no sense to me. I get more upscale condos, but more mega hotels?

It's the condo thing that never really made sense. But at the time CC was being planned, the existing high end hotels were minting money. They did not plan for a major economic collapse.

Vegas economy is still struggling room rates have gone up but still remain incredibly low. Holidays you will see a sharp increase however still below what Vegas hotels charged during the boom yrs. You can find bargains anywhere if you look hard. There will be two more casino's coming on line in a couple of years that the other casino's are worried about effecting hotel room prices again.

Analysts give mixed reviews for Genting's Strip plans

Also and this is just my opinion... If you are stumbling into your hotel room so loaded you HAVE to raid the mini bar, maybe it's time you quit partying so much......
That's why one comes to Vegas...to party on the verge of the criminal...to partake in the hedonistic pleasures....if you want to see the grand canyon say in Sedona....How in the heck can anyone stay on the strip and penny pinch...you are defying the purpose of the strip...this place exists to separate you from your cash with no ROI..

I like Vegas, but don't see at as much more than a place to party at....

Times have changed...now you need to be a 24 year old hottie to reap the kind of tips you want. You should be thankful you still have a job.

There is cheapo vegas and baller vegas....both are ridiculous to me, but if you are not poised to take advantage of the latter then you need to readjust your sights and be content.

Vegas is definitely cheaper than most my wife and I have been to. went their last year on our honeymoon, stayed at The Renaissance, had a dinner at Top of The World, saw 4 shows (cirque du soliel, 2 comedians and a magician), went to the grand canyon, horse back riding on mt charleston and had a rental car/round trip flight for 2 and spent less than 2500 for 7 days. Hotel was 130 a night for a suite, and our rental car wasn't too cheap as we got it same day while out there and decided walking wasn't as much fun as we thought.

Try spending a week in Manhattan, or NYC in general even if you hotel up in NJ and take the transit into NYC....

Trips can be done right, plan well ahead of time, get deals on shows and activities over the internet before you go, don't purchase same day. Book at least 3 months in advance on a hotel and take advantage of offers, and use priceline, etc for flights with the name your own price. It's easy to go without draining your account.

Also, see if your company has deals. The company I work for gets monthly discounts on shows throughout the US and hotel/rental car deals along with other things that can make a trip easier.

2500 for a week is cheap? when i grow up we had like 40 bucks a day for week to spend for my mom, me, and my sister...

I am not saying that deals can't be found...but you gotta be one disciplined mofo to have discipline on the strip....the renaissance is not a bad hotel...not really a strip four star but I have stayed there and found it ok...

I am glad you liked it here....yea, you are right, Manhattan is insane....
