Does anyone know if there are some regular hotels near the strip? I mean like Holiday Inn type hotels. I found a Super 8 on Koval but I'm not sure how close to the strip it is and I don't want to book a hotel off the strip and get there and realize it's in a bad part of town. Any help would be appreciated.

That’s a tough call. Most areas directly off of the strip are kind of shady... I did a quick google search and found this website listing hotels (both casino and regular) off of the strip and they include maps so you can gauge distance.

I don't know how accurate or up to date this site is, but it might help. My personal opinion would be to stay more to the west side of town if you are going to be right near the strip. Koval and Paradise can be a little seedy, however Dean martin aka Industrial has a similar vibe too.

I presonally like the Westin across from Bally's (off-strip). The beds & showers are great! It seems to get a little pricey compared to other hotels during conventions.

Thanks for the info...from doing some more research and looking at ByebyeVegas' link (Thanks) it may just cost about the same to stay at a cheaper Strip Hotel like Imperial Palace or the Riveria or the Sahara. I thought off strip hotels would be cheaper, but apparently I was mistaken...unless they are in a questionable area.

Isn't that Super 8 next to Ellis Island? It's only a block off the Strip right behind Ballys. Not too bad an area. And Ellis Island is a good place to eat.

If you are looking for something reasonable priced and nice try The Renneansce (sp) by Marriott on the corner of Paradise and DI. There is also a hilton property by the Hard Rock (forget which one though).

I agree the Westin might be the best option for SPG, however, if you want to get your SPG points (and any applicable upgrades) Planet Hollywood is a Starwood Property.

Okay, so I checked all the rates at all the nearby off strip hotels and the only ones that were that much cheaper in price were in shady parts of town...so I decided to get an updated and renovated room at the Imperial Palace (I might as well see it while it's still there). The thing that bothered me was when I called to make a reservation I asked for a Deluxe room with a balcony and a view of the strip...I was told that they cannot gaurentee any of that and I would have to find out upon check-in if anything like that was available. Huh? What the hell is the reservation for then? Is this standard practice for Casino Hotels? To me that doesn't make any sense. If I get there and the room sucks, I'm stuck with it...I doubt I can get another Hotel on that day for 11 days at the same or near price.

that is the standard for most hotels in the country...even when it is the comfort inn or caesars, you are not guaranteed for a room with 2 beds or a non-smoking room....
