I have tried 6 different, local Chinese places for my fried dumplings (love love love them), and they all are pretty bad. Most of them are made from chicken, not pork and bear a strong resemblance to the store bought, frozen variety...... Anyone have any recommendations?? I'm on the NW side, but will travel. I have bought 5 different kinds from the asian store in China Town, but they weren't any good either. I will start trying the resturants in that area next, but thought I would ask for recommendations first. Thanks!!!

I like the shu mai at Market 168 at Spring Market and Jones. But they're steamed. Not fried. Frankly, they're about as good as it gets in Las Vegas. If you don't like them, you're not going to like any Chinese food in the valley.

fried dumplings are probably the one pan-asian food I cant make at home pretty decently. I would never buy them with high hopes from any place again.

Thanks all for your responses. But how disheartening! Every mom & pop asian resturant back east has superb homemade fried Pork dumplings! Maybe I should learn how to make them and start a business? I did record a Food Network show a couple weeks ago that showed how to make them. I think the filling would be easy, the wrapper will be the problem......

Little Dumpling on Sky pointe was the first place I tried. They were chicken and frozen in a bag........

fried dumplings?

are you sure you didn't have steamed dumplings?

Or are you talking about Gyoza?

Yes, I mean gyoza. But most people don't know them by that name..... You can have them just steamed or streamed and fried. Do you have a good source??

So easy to make there are dozens of good recipes online. Start with ground pork, shredded cabbage, soy sauce, garlic and green onion. You can buy the wrappers at just about any market but if you want the dipping sauce head to spring mtn. One you get a basic recipe down you can vary it to taste by adding vinegar, egg, etc.

If you're going to be adventurous make some pad Thai with it. It's another one of those experimental dishes but my pad Thai is every bit as good if not better than Archie's or Pin Kaow.

Gyoza are FRIED!!!

and Japanese... not Chinese(steamed).

you can find them at most better end Asian markets sch as international market place, and you just cook them yourself.
