Good Day,

Recently got cited for unsafe lane change ; looked it up and the fine is $305 with traffic school. Does anyone know the technicalities of getting the fine reduced or has anyone been able to successfully reduce the fine on their own? This is through the LV City Municipal Court.

I read somewhere that a lawyer will be able to get the citation amended to a parking ticket with no traffic school; I'm more worried about the fine $$ amount.

You can call the city/county attorney (or whoever prosecutes these things when they go to traffic court), and try to negotiate it to a lesser charge, in exchange for not contesting it. I've done that in the past (not in metro Vegas), and it worked.

Note, the lawyers know and have dealt extensively with all the parties involved, and may be in a better position to negotiate for you. This is part of why people pay them.

What you want to do is go to the initial court appearance. They will give you your options. You then want to plead not guilty. They will give you another court date where you will go before the judge. The judge will then make you an offer of $140 if you plead no contest, and then you will have go to online driver's education for $30. You will not have any record of it on your license. I have done this many times and it has saved me a lot of money.
