So B.C. will only fill a prescription for 3 months but if we are staying for 5 or 6 months at our LV condo we will run out of our prescriptions (blood pressure) half way through our trip. Under no circumstances will a BC doctor prescribe for longer as the govt dictates this rule and it is different in each province...BC is the worst. Does anyone know if we can get a prescription from a LV med clinic and how much a quick doctor visit would cost since we don't have USA health plan/coverage and do doctors prescribe to out-of-country people without doing a whole medical checkup if you don't have your med history? If you have run into this problem how did you deal with it?

$150.00 for a first visit, and cheaper for a follow-up. Welcome to Phillips Family Practice Clinic

Your medical history won't be a problem. They'll take a verbal history from you and do a quick exam. Let them know that you are a cash patient when scheduling your appt. and ask for any discounts offered.

You can also try the walk-in clinics at Walgreens and such, but I don't think they give you a discount on follow-up visits, so it's $150 a pop and you probably wont get a three month's supply.

I think (and you could call CVS about this) that your doctor in BC could give you a prescription to bring with you. They might even be able to call it in to a pharmacy like CVS.

Otherwise, see my primary care doc, Dr. Danka Michaels. I don't think she would rip you off to do what you're looking for.

But you will only get your answers by calling pharmacies and doctors, not by asking strangers on CD.

OP, forgot to add, make sure whichever provider you go to writes your RX in generic form. A Canadian would have heart failure upon seeing what brand-name drugs cost here.

Buzz, I've referred other posters to the clinic mentioned above, and they've been happy with the service and pricing. Is Dr. Michaels over in 89128? Her name sounds familiar. I'm looking for a new primary care doc myself. I'd utilize the Phillips clinic, but I used to work with those people and I'm not interested in having my butt hanging out of a gown in front of people I know.

How are you coming up with $150? My understanding is that it is anywhere from $65 for a simple BP screening to $79-$89 for a full exam.

CVS charges a similar amount.

From what I understand, they only give you a one month supply at Minute clinic, so it works out to be less expensive to contact a primary care physician who will write a 3-6 month RX at a time. Perhaps the length of the prescription also depends on the stability of your condition?

Dr Michaels is on Peak St between Tenaya and Buffalo for now, if she hasn't moved. I was there a couple of weeks ago and when they gave me my next appointment they said it would be in the new office which I think is on Buffalo near Cheyenne. I've been meaning to drive by and check it out. Anywho, her phone # is 869-6190. I wouldn't go anywhere else even if she moved to Henderson. She's the best doc I've ever had and I've had a lot of them. I sure would never go to a franchised clinic. They want to sell you things you don't need like they do in the service shop of a car dealer.

Thought so. I used to work over on Peak. I think my coworker used to see Dr. Michaels. Thanks for the number, I'll give her a call. I have a good doctor, but his manner is so cold and unappealing that I find myself putting off going in when I know I should.
