I assume everybody has just received their property tax notice from Clark County to their Canadian mailing address recently. I thought I would just share a little glitch when I called the Clark County Treasurer's Office automated system to make a credit card payment for next year's taxes. After answering all the questions using my Canadian Mastercard, the last question, after ALL the previous questions, was to enter the 5-digit zip code that is used by your credit card's billing address. Well, as y'all know, our postal codes goes like
V2K 2E5. So, what you do is just hit 11111 and then it goes through and you get a Confirmation Number of payment.

Have a good weekend everybody!

Do they charge a processing fee if you pay by credit card?

Yes, they do. I inquired at the Treasurer's Office when I went downtown to pay my taxes before I left town last month. (The bills hadn't been mailed yet and I wanted to pay the taxes before my trip.) I was going to pay by credit card if they didn't charge a fee in order to get my credit card bennies, but chose to write a check rather than pay the processing fee.

My processing fee was $7 and our Canadian dollar is up over US currency a bit right now so that will cover that. :-)

Good info binionrat. I always have that issue when trying to pay for gas at the pumps. I will try that next time I fill up here.

That's interesting. I was told when I paid my taxes at the Treasurer's Office that the processing fee was a 2% surcharge over the amount of the bill.

Default Paying with credit card

I try to pay all my bills with a credit card for the points also, as long as there are no fees. As long as you pay off the balance every month it's a free loan and it's a nice way to easily track your spending.

Oh, I forgot to mention that our annual taxes went down from $550 a year to $330 this year so the surcharge would certainly be more for highend condos and houses. The $7 we paid was on that $330.

good to know.

I always try 90210 for the zip.

Maybe I should try 11111 and see what happens when I gas up.

Brian

Is that $330 for a year? The place we "HOPE" to buy ( yes, still waiting ) has about $750-800 a year in property taxes.... cheaper then the $2200 I pay at home in Canada.
