I'm all for exercising your 2nd amendment rights, but recommend taking a gun safety course before buying any guns.

I know there are couple places that do gun safety courses at the Clark County Shooting Park, you can find info on the NRA website. Also I know the Gun Store on Tropicana offers a gun safety class pretty cheap.

I went to the show on Sunset in the All American Sports Park and there were hardly any guns there. Lots of magazines, tasers, holsters, and accessories but hardly any guns. I've heard the one at Cashman Field is better, but I'm not spending my money to find out.

I've found if you want anything in demand you need to call around to find someone who has it and find the best price. It doesn't seem like any one store has the price price on everything, it's more like this store has the best price on item x this week.

I like the Discount Firearms range, easily the cheapest indoor range, I think it's $15 for all day and you can use your own ammo.
The show at Cashman is the one I was referring to, it was extensive. The Colt manufacturer had a booth and I spoke with the rep for a bit. You'll never guess where most of their factory orders are being shipped but if you said Mexico then you would be 100% correctomundo. As for the admission, if you Google prior to the show they offer free coupons online, that's where I found mine at least.

American Shooters on Spring Mountain and Arville.

Best range in town, and prices are decent.

Very good shop with great selection of guns, I purchased my Glock 36 there. I was a little surprised to find out American Shooters did not have a gunsmith though . I also shoot at Discount Firearms another good full service shop. Cannot go wrong with either.

I go to Discount Firearms. I had a great experience with the transfer of my firearm that I purchase online. The gun range is great as well. They don't bother you as long as you know what you're doing. The sales guy don't really pressure you and they are great to talk to. At the Gun Store, I hate having someone behind me all the time. I like my own privacy specially since i know what the hell I'm doing. I took the CCW class at the Gun store and Discount firearms. I like the instructor for Discount Firearms. However it looks like the Gun Store offer free classes now. I recommend you take this class as it's really informative and should be mandatory for any gun owner. They will discuss quite a few scenarios with self defense and gun safety.

I went to The Gun Store on my llast trip out there to rent. It was always a bit touristy, but it's now turned into a high volumn tourist rip off joint. I won't be going back. There are other decent rental ranges in Vegas.

If It's reluctantly, just don't buy one.

As for the Las Vegas gun shows...so far I've been pretty disappointed in them...they seem tiny compared to what I'm used to. Then again its been a few years since I've been...maybe they are all getting smaller?

As for ammo, the cheapest .45 I've found has been at Guns & Ammo Garage, that includes checking Stockpiles prices.

I like American Shooters so far for indoor ranges....I have yet to find my favorite store as I've not been to ALL of them yet.

What are the suggestions for best surplus store?

There was a really big surplus store in Denver that I liked:
https://secure.armysurplusforless.com/

..haven't found one like that yet.
The best thing going for gun shows are the extra long (sometimes ridiculous)extended clips and huge bulk ammo deals. If certain people in congress had their way, both of these would be illegal. Get them while you can.

^^^ Actually Guns and Ammo garage had cheaper ammo than the two shows I went to!
I'm used to it taking an hour to walk around the shows...not ten minutes.
I was greatly disappointed. There wasn't much of anything at either show...hopefully the show at South Point this next week will be BIG...?

I and a lot of people in SoCal have picked up reloads from ammo bros dot com. It's around ~50 for 250 rounds of 114g 9mm. Never any misfires, good clean ammo, better than buying surplus or cheap IMO.
