Hi All,

I am a new guy here. Anyway I am in the process of getting a transfer to Las Vegas. I am a gun owner and have several shotguns, rifles and handguns. What are some of the local gun laws that I need to know about before getting to Vegas?

Thanks,Mike.

Nevada is a very conservative state and we don't have really strict gun control. I'm not sure about the rifles and shotguns, but the pistols you need to take over to the sheriff's substation and register them. Probably the long guns too. Just call the sheriff's office and ask them. Guns I've purchased in the store were registered right then and there (if registration is the right word). I took my pistol that was a gift to the substation on W. Cheyenne. You can also get a carry permit for a concealed weapon if you want. You'd have to take a class for that. The sheriff's office actually suggested it to me. It is legal in Nevada to pack iron on the outside of your clothes but it's not very advisable to go walking around like that. You can keep a gun in your glove box or under the seat of your car if you want and that is not considered concealed. I've had a gun on the seat next to me when I was pulled over for some reason and I just told the cop about it so he didn't think I was going to shoot him. I've heard others say the same thing. You aren't supposed to have a round in the chamber but they can be loaded if I'm not mistaken. Otherwise what good would they be? Keep that in mind when you flip off another driver. Most of them are armed and dangerous.

Note the restriction on guns in cars in NLV and Boulder City.

Well if you look at my screen name you may figure out I do a little bit of Trap shooting, I also shoot some Sporting Clays.

I will leave the rest of your comment alone since I dont know you very well yet. But lets just say I am a Big 2nd Amendment supporter.

Sorry Billee but that is the typical reply of a guy who has been carefully indoctrinated to believe that guns are bad by the socialists in your part of the country; like that carpetbagger you folks elected to the Senate and now thinks she could be the first woman prez. What part of the statement, "Guns don't kill people, people do", don't you northeasterners understand? Why don't they want to outlaw cars? Cars kill more people EVERY YEAR in America than Americans were killed in the Vietnam war. Since most deaths by firearms are caused by people who do not know how to handle them, wouldn't it make more sense to teach firearm safety than to bury our heads in the sand and think we're safe if we pass more stupid laws, or try to pretend guns don't exist? I thank my lucky stars for the grown ups who taught me, and for the Marine Corps that really taught me firearm usage and safety.

I don't advocate hunting...or shooting people either...I don't see the sport in shooting defensless animals. But I know that this country wouldn't exist if it weren't for brave men who learned how to use guns by hunting.

FYI: Trapshooter will find a large facility at Tule Springs about twenty minutes from downtown. Another outdoor facility for shooting is out W. Charleston about twenty minutes in that direction, and several indoor facilities all over town. As far as I know you can still hunt for ducks and geese on Lake Mead. I stopped hunting in 1969 so I don't follow very closely any changes in hunting areas, but there is a reserve at Overton at the north end of the Lake about 65 miles for ducks, geese, and pheasant. Quail and dove hunting has probably suffered by all the construction but there should still be places nearby for that. Deer hunting and elk hunting on the back side of Mt. Charleston has never been very good but there are many other areas in the state for that. I started a thread recently to find out hwre people go to bust up cans and bottles now that they have closed off all my old shooting spots in the desert.

Default 2nd Amendment isn't about hunting

I hope those for gun control are not hypocrites and don't own any guns. That will make it much easier to deal with them in the future.

LMFAO on that one! Very quick to pass judgment Buzz I am very disappointed in you... We are in GUN COUNTRY here in upstate. I am an avid hunter as you can see from the picture of the wall in my garage that I just took, those are just the ones that I could fit on the wall, there are at least 40 other that were spike horns or deformed that I just didn't care about. The other is my guest bedroom including 2 semi auto .22's a bolt action 30-06 and my synthetic Thompson .50 cal black powder The last is my sock drawer with my old school Ruger that my grandfather gave me. I have been around guns since I was 8. In my original comment I added "JK" for just kidding but no one got that. I am bringing NO guns with me to Vegas as I think it would be useless. I will take trips home and hunt with my father for that, instead of shooting clay pigeons in the 110-degree desert. Now for protection I could see owning a pistol but there’s a reason I'm moving out of here, I’m tired of the hick bull**** pickup driving lifestyle for a while. Trap shooter I am truly sorry if I had offended you, as I said I hunt a lot I guess I was just being an ass and didn't understand the gun thing in Vegas as to me it is just a totally different lifestyle. For me, I'm moving away from the guns, hunting, fishing. I will miss the venison though. We keep in good with that here.

As far as hypocrites and gun control...of course they have their guns. They're just afraid of you and I having guns too. Typical of people who know THEY can't be trusted ain't it?

Maybe I was a little hard on the boy but I expect to hear that kind of talk from a soccer mom, not a manly man.

I had a Daisy Red Ryder bb gun propped against the wall in my family room when a soccer mom was visiting with her infant baby boy. She almost freaked, and wanted to know if it was loaded. A bb gun that a six year old would have trouble cocking and shooting, and her kid was just an infant.

If we don't teach kids to handle guns then they will not know what they are doing the first time they get their hands on one...and they eventually will; you can count on it. That's when people get shot.
