With all the construction at centre Strip by Imperial Palace and Harrahs (we stayed 2 nites at IP in July and they start working at 6:30 am or so) I would def stay at either end of the Strip. I would recommend the Tropicana as it is totally renovated and well priced. You are just across the street from the monorail station behind MGM. If you have a rental car, it's easy parking and you can avoid busy Strip traffic. Staff and service are great and they have a super friendly poker room as well the Beach Cafe!

I would never stay at the Tropicana because they don't pay their bills. They stiffed Dionne Warwick, and she no longer sings there. They stiffed Brad Garrett, and he moved across the street. And now apparently they're stiffing the Mob experience people who hastily built that attraction to compete with the Mob Museum.

That is rather tacky isn't it? I hadn't heard of this. I guess that means they aren't going to take over Hooters and property then...I would recommend somewhere on Fremont to OP(like Golden Nugget) but they have said they want to be on the Strip. I would think Bill's would be far enough from the construction and central to everything.

Another thing, if visitors know an MGM employee, they can get the employee discount. The employee plugs your name and email address into their employee website. You get an email with a link to the employee reservation system. You book and pay for the room. The employee doesn't have to do a thing after sending you the link.

Since you said "close to the strip" what about the Gold Coast or The Orleans? Both offer a shuttle to Bill's Gamblin Hall which is on the strip.

Do you think the OP will ever say if his question has been answered?

No, it's an MGM program and the company encourages employees to send their friends and family to MGM properties.

I used to have similar standards when I was a tourist here. My location of choice became the Las Vegas Hilton. I stayed in many places before settling on it and concluding that I got the biggest bang for my buck there. In the glory days of Hilton hotels, this was its premier property. It is not on the strip, but you can walk there from the LVH. (Although I would take a cab at night for safety). If you rent a car, the location is even better.

I have not stayed there since the property lost its Hilton franchise. Now it is known only as LVH. The few times I have been there in the sports book since the changeover, I noticed only improvements to the facility. But I had no reason to pay attention to whether the employees or service changed. As a hotel guest I always found the service plenty acceptable. I would not call it great service, but it was great value.

All that said, the Las Vegas experience is different when you stay ON the strip. My second best value choice for location other that the Hilton was usually someplace on Fremont St. But that was after I had many ON strip stays. When I came here as a tourist it was to relax and gamble but not really to party. If you are looking for the party, definitely stay on the strip. You will find a lot more guys with their striped shirts and girls yelling woohoo with the booze pouring freely and music blasting loudly everywhere. Some of that can be fun, but I would rather be away from it and choose when I want to be part of it.
