And you're reading it -- even posting about it! God Bless You! (But AZ and NV are definitely not the two dumbest states.)

How have you not been banned by now? You're a parasite.

As for the OP's question, I prefer the Phoenix/Scottsdale area to live. Vegas is nice, but Phoenix seems cleaner (e.g. less graffiti) and more cultured from my experience.

I live in Las Vegas and have spent a lot of time in Phoenix as well. Mostly, the Chandler / Tempe area, but that's a big differnce right there. In Las Vegas, there are no suburbs to speak of. No other place to go, just Las Vegas.

Anyway, Phoenix is very similar to Las Vegas only in terms of the way it physically looks. The landscape, architecture, vegetation, people, and climate are very similar.

I would jump to say that Phoenix has much more to offer you, but without knowing more of your background I could not really point you one way or ther other. Las Vegas is much more of a blue-collar town than Phoenix. If you are a construction guy or a bed maker, then Las Vegas will be a great fit for you. If you can read and write English, and you enjoy wearing a suit and tie to work, you might do better in Phoenix.

For most people, Las Vegas is just a stop, a place to learn a trade or develop a career. Most seem to move on to a real city after 5 or 6 years of being here. By "real city" I mean that Vegas is just a town run by gambling and entertainment. Phoenix, on the other hand, is a real city that serves the country on the business and economical landscape. I mean no disrespect to the place I live, but let's be honest; Las Vegas is a joke in terms of it being a real American city. Though Oacar Goodman (the Mayor) is trying to change that image, I'm not sure that will successfully happen.

I have never lived in Phoenix so I can not comment on the economics of that city, but I have been in Las Vegas for several years and I can tell you that if you have half a brain, you can thrive and do well here. It is a very easy town to succeed in. You just have to put in your time.

The fact remains; no matter how well you do financially in Vegas, you will still yearn for culture, (other than Mexicans and Pacific Islanders), I mean a town with a wide range of museums, theaters, sports teams, arenas, a city where the people there have roots. Phoenix has all of that. Las Vegas does not.

On the flip side, Phoenix is a much hotter and over crowded city than Las Vegas. Las Vegas is a 24/7, exciting town, whereas Phoenix dies after 9PM. Vegas is home to some of the greatest entertainers and acts of all time, whereas Phoenix is home to....

Traffic is much easier to deal with in Las Vegas. The "rush hour" in Vegas lasts half of the time that it does in Phoenix. Along those lines, I should also bring up that the Phoenix PD use cameras to issue traffic citations. That is illegal in the state of Nevada. In Phoenix, if you speed on the 101 or run a red light anywhere in town, you can have a ticket mailed to you. No traffic stop needed. That is reason enough to stay away.

The illegal immigration problem is at it's worse in Phoenix. There is not much more I can say on that issue. Compared to Las Vegas, Phoenix is much more like Mey-he-co. The entire South West USA is being destroyed by immigration, but Phoenix is really taking on the brunt of it. Las Vegas is about 2 or 3 years behind, but its coming here too.

The closest similarities are in the housing market. Las Vegas and Phoenix are pretty much on par with each other in that respect. I would say that rental prices are about the same. I would guess that real estate is a little cheaper in Phoenix.

I'm sure I did not provide you with any answers, hopefully some insight though. Good luck with your move.

And why do the schools in Arizona and Nevada score so low? Many of the students do not speak English.

The same administration that is allowing all of this immigration is also punishing the school systems in those affected areas with the No Child Left Behind Act, a program that punishes and humiliates schools with low test scores.

I'm I the only one who sees what's going on?

I'm looking at moving out to Las Vegas here in a few months, it will depend on money I can gather up. I'll be by myself so cost of living will be low. I have owned my own business doing Plastering and Painting here in Michigan for 22 years now, jobs are to few and far in between, I have a job lined up in Vegas But if I opened my own shop doing specialized Custom ornate Plaster work would people buy into having their homes done with Cornice mouldings or cove ceilings. if you want to see some of my work and tell me if I could make it out there stop by Blog and let me know before I make the move, I was told by one of my customers that Phoenix would be a good place to go to. I am also learning Spanish since there are so many Mexicans out west. Thanks

I would think you will have little problem finding jobs in either city. In general new residental construction is hurting in both...though refurbs and such go on pretty much as usual. Las Vegas also has a significant custom market with a number of guys who do one offs.

Perhaps, you need to read past the headline Sheriff -

From the article you cite:

It is, in short, a comparison of the education systems in the 50 states and not a measure of a state's intelligence.
