if only one of those things, I pay half.
Anyone wanna cover the bet?

Good advice:

"
My suggestion: Take I-70 west through Indianapolis, pick up 44 west in St. Louis, angle down to Oklahoma City, pick up 40 West to Kingman, then 93 up to Las Vegas. Most of that stretch should be OK (pending weather), as you get closer you may need to be careful in New Mexico & around Flagstaff, AZ. The early part of your trip you can't alter much unless you want to go way south & cut across Nashville/Arkansas/etc. One bonus on the southern router is cheaper gas; Missouri, Oklahoma & New Mexico have some of the cheapest gas in the country."

Last January I drove from Eastern Oklahoma to LV. Because of an approaching winter storm, I left at 3 AM. Drove fast (5 or 10 mph above speed limit) and when I got to Amarillo the wind was blowing at 50+mph. On the other side of Amarillo there were white out conditions. I followed a 18 wheeler from about 30 feet at 45mph until well past the Texas border. Needless to say I saw a lot of cars uturn as soon as we hit the blizzard.

When I checked into my motel in Grants NM the tv news was showing I40 in Western NM closed. It stayed closed for 2 days.

I think I will be going the i70-i44-i40 route. When I put my las vegas address into my GPS it came up with this route. Google Maps came up with the original plan on i80-i70.
I will use what my GPS tell me as that is what I will just go by.

It says 38 hours travel timealso and 2573 miles.

i suggest you like delgadob... that`s the perfect route in the winter, considering that 70 in Colorado you`ll gonna have hard time, being closed often because of winter condition... sometimes even 40 is closed in NM i saw at weather channel, and Flagstaff AZ is pretty bad, beeing at so high altitude especially in winter. But is much better than I70 or I80, considering that is souther and a little warmer.

Good luck!

Yes is shorter what your GPS tells you... on i80-i70, but dont look at miles in the winter, look at safety. i consider that on i44, and i40 is much safer, especially that Im a truck driver so i drive a lot thru these areas...

Can you ask her the name of the app.... Sounds great

Remember, its not about latitude, but altitude. Even though new mexico is plenty south some parts are around 5000 feet above sea level and the snow and ice there can rival that of Colorado. Plenty of skiing to be had in NM, remember. Also, if you cant afford to spend $30-50 a night at a motel six off of the interstate, Las Vegas might not be the place for you.

30-50 for a motel 6? They charge rack rate if you don't have a reservation. It was 85. In Omaha. 1st and last time for a Motel6 for me. They can leave the light on for someone else.

So now I'm curious--what is the current weather condition around NM? I know of someone else who's driving the same route tomorrow.
