The interesting part is that it is widely speculated the increases came from the Cosmo and a few upgrades to existing properties like the pool at the Trop. So despite the notion that new hotels and new things don't draw visitors, the year is showing it still draws incrementally. I think Linq will be a good draw too once built. Which tells me all this talk of no new casinos on the Strip for decades is wrong.

Agreed. The Cosmopolitan was a nice surprise given the pervasive pessimism about it before it opened. It's really a beautiful place and has some of the best/most unique dining options in Vegas. China Poblano? "Chinamex" cuisine? Come on, that's just cool! Holsteins has excellent burgers and I hear the buffet is awesome too. I also know there's a "hidden" unnamed pizza place somewhere on the 3rd floor. The overall service from the entire hotel staff is excellent and the pool area is pretty nice too... if not a total meat market.

The Linq will definitely draw more visitors.

Pervasive pessimism about the The Cosmopolitan? Are you sure you're not thinking City Center?

you will NEVER see them compare the numbers against a normal / prerecession year.

them = rj/sun

is it hard to ask for a disclaimer? omfg, visitor numbers are up from last year! stop the freaking presses. wait, what? last year was a bad year? so it sucks less... i get it.

you are not listening. If visitor volume is up 5% in 2011 over 2010 it will be the best year ever. If not 2011 certainly in 2012.

Get over it. Tourist volumes are approaching the all time high.

But I imagine dollars spent per tourist are approaching an all time low. Man, we have some cheap-assed visitors lately. But that's just personal observation. I don't have diddly to back that claim up.

A different and more interesting discussion. But I believe they are going up also.

That must be why so many good restaurants are shuttering, and there's always a crowd at the casino quick serves.

Fine restaurants shuttering is a fact of life in good times. I am sure the rate is higher at the moment. But are most good restaurants shuttering? I don't think so.

And the strip is relatively outrageous...so it might be expected in a down economy...they failed to adjust.
