Disclaimer: I'm on the Architectural Board of our HOA, but I don't know nuthin bout birthin no new construction. I do know the board approved to let a resident raise his back wall for security reasons, over my 'no' vote, and my protests that we don't know if it will be done right with rebar etc. The back walls are community walls, and as such are the responsibility of the HOA. If it all falls down and there are law suits, the residents might have to be assessed if insurance doesn't cover it. I'm not sure where it stands right now, because we made him go see the city, and they laid all that permit sh** on him. I think he decided it wasn't worth it.
