I know that Denver isn't much higher, if any, than Colorado Springs, but I had it pictured as up in the trees more, not as high as, but sort of like Santa Fe. I do recall that it stretches to the Plains. (Just realized ...The Springs has the planes and Denver has the Plains.) I guess most of the west is desert when it comes right down to it.

the ones that do are prolly Kalifornicators and Texicans that have moved in within the last 20 years. I just asked my best friend of 60 years [he lives in the Springs] he still says its high plains.....he said "NO STUPID, YOU live in the desert, REMEMBER." I get NO respect.

It has to be better than Orlando......
Coming from the other direction (worked in gaming in Vegas, left to live in Denver), it will come down to how well you develop a good group of friends. That was about all that kept me in Vegas 13 years. Good friendships are hard to come by in Vegas and its complicated by all the people constantly picking up and leaving town. Frankly I don't miss Vegas at all, but I am not about to bash the town. Its not a bad place to live if you can handle the complicated nature of it.

As for working in the casinos, be ready for a ton of BS. Most of my career I sold to people working in them and met a lot of people in a variety of positions there. I don't think I ever met a more miserable group of employees in my life. Everyone was dealing with world-class politics and then unreasonable performance demands. Dealers had to deal 10% faster, managers had to generate 10% more profit in the middle of the recession, buyers had to get 10% more stuff for less money, etc. And the politics were just breathtaking. One guy I sold to had me join him and a few others for a little celebrating a promotion he got on a Thursday. On Friday they fired his soon to be boss and on Saturday he was offered a demotion like it was a favor...if he didn't take it he could get his things and leave. All because his new boss wouldn't agree with his bosses on something. Its patently ridiculous, kind of like an investment bank. No one is happy now, but people don't leave because a big pot of gold is there for the precious few who manage to get to it. The rest of the sea of monkeys is just hoping for a shot that probably will never come.

So think more about the job than the city, it might end up being what you have a tougher time handling.

Wow. Thank you all for the feed back. I can say that I now have a widespread view of opinions about Vegas. Thanks again and I'm excited for the move. Also, I kind of always thought of Denver as "high and dry." I guess coming from AK, anything in the west would be desert to me.
