I was at the Flamingo/Cimmaron DMV. I waited 4 hours to register my car. I could have done it online but, I have a credit with them. A CREDIT!!!!!!! I registered a car in October and I sold it in December. When I turned in my plates, I had a $320 credit with them. When I went to renew my registration with my other car, I only had $266 left on it. Why?? Why do they take my money and then charge me for taking my money?? I don't get it. But that is not the part I was really mad about, 4 hours??? Seriously?? Oh and I went back again because my friend was registering her car. I can't believe how many people were there and how long it took.

Does anyone know what is going on? I've been to the DMV before and the longest I was there was maybe 2 1/2 hours.

You have to get to the DMV at 7 AM which is an hour before they open. Then sit down by the front door until they open at 8 AM. I have done this every time and never had to wait at all.

End of the month. Some say it is busiest the end of the month, and beginning of the month, and after holidays.

If they are allowed to lie to you, and they most surely are, then turnabout is fair play. Sure, they may have gamed the system to make it illegal in some cases, but that doesn't alter the basic morality of what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

As was being discussed in another thread in the Reno forum, part of the reason for the long waits lately have been because the ASI availability is being phased in during the last few weeks in the Las Vegas DMV offices. There was an article in the paper a couple of weeks ago about it. I heard on the radio as I was driving the other day that they expect long lines for awhile until the employees (and I supposed the public also in that everybody has to know what documents to bring in) get used to all the procedures, etc.

Is this going to be a problem? How would anyone even be able to tell? I mean I'm not going to get pulled over just by having an Alabama license plate am I?
No, NV law states you have 30 days to switch over your plates and have NV insurance before you can register

If you plan on keeping your car only two months after moving I dont think you will have a problem registering a new car

But beware NV registration fees are through the roof, they are based on your cars orignial MSRP and its weight, and the newer the car is the higher the fee

When I move later on this year, I will have to pay $195 to register my 2003 Nissan Altima which was $25,000 MSRP when it was brand new, and weighs just about 3000 pounds. And I as well as every other NV driver must renew every year. Depending on the car depends on how much it costs. I currently pay $56 a year in FLA to keep my car registered, Las Vegas Drunk pays $54 a year in NV for his 1991 Ford Escort

I believe the NV DMV has a site where you can estimate how much it will be to register your car
