We're thinking of using Pods for moving our books and a few other things when we move to LV. Anyone have experience with this company? I'm sort of suspicious of moving companies as I've heard that sometimes they will increase their fees after the move but prior to delivery and one is forced to pay them, to get one's things.

There is another company similar to Pods (Packrat, I think?), but they don't pick up in our area..

We used one to move household stuff from Calif to Washington State after my mother in law died. They did exactly what they said they would when they said they would for the price agreed.

You have to load and unload yourself, of course.

the one thing I have to say about pods is they are EXPENSIVE!!!!

you would be better off sending the books via USPS Book rate (up to 70 lbs per box)
and renting a PO box (they will hold the package for 15 days)
or sending them to a friends house till your ready

I don't know if an iPod will do much good with moving. I guess it could motivate you while you are carrying boxes but other than that, I don't see the use.

Not IPod, PODS. It's a moving company. Sheesh.

We are also looking into PODS for our move from New Jersey. We are taking very little furniture but plenty of boxes. Flat rate shipping via USPS may, in fact, be more reasonable. I'll price out both and post my findings.

It runs about $1.00 a lb
(minus insurance and tracking)

Like Mac said, Pods are expensive!
You should look in the General Moving Section here aat City Data.

When you get there..check out my thread on ABF Moving Company.
They've been around for more than 60 years, and offer the same exact moving system as PODS for HALF of what PODS charges.
Also....Google "PODS complaints" and read all the horror stories.
Good luck.

I heard from them this morning and they wanted about $500 down and nearly 3K to move a 8x8x16 and they don't load or unload. Considering that we could rent a 26' truck for less than the down, I don't think it's wise.
