hey,

finally moving in the next couple weeks to my new place in desert shores. thought i would throw a post up here - see if anyone on this board lives in the area? im a single guy - i know its a family area - but i was curious if maybe there are some single women on here and more importantly what is that bar The Village Pub like. lots of locals? any singles scene there at all? or just your typical video poker junkies and alcoholics?

Regarding what? That's a pretty ridiculous statement to make without backing it up.

In my opinion, it's a far nicer area than most in Las Vegas.

I used to own at La Posada. It is common knowledge.

It's opinion, not knowledge, unless you specify what you're talking about, and you haven't done that. Bad reputation for crime? Traffic? Bad HOA? Ducks from the lake that poop in your yard? Undercooked steak at Marche Bacchus? What?

The Villas at Desert Shores was a conversion that went south very badly at the peak of the insanity. I still consider it a place where I don't recommend even renting. The Villas is a very nice site in a very nice master plan. Just lost control of the tenant population and there is almost no way to get it back. It is one small corner of Desert Shores.

Other than that development Desert Shores is pretty much interchangable with Summerlin which is to its west and south. It is pretty much very low in crime or any other problems. Actually a nicer look than most of Summerlin.

All the local vegas bars are full of degenerate gamblers, unless you go at 4am. Then you might be able to find some single strippers that just got off work.

I totally agree olecapt. It's one of the nicer areas of Las Vegas, with the possible exceptions of those apartments. IMO all apartments attract low lifes, but some are worse than others. Desert Shores condo/apartments seem to have a better class of low lifes.

It's a beautiful neighborhood. I think the lakes, which we at first opposed but now wish we had bought a house on, encourage people to get out and walk and enjoy the out of doors. Not counting The Village Pub, there are at least four other good restaurants in the neighborhood, and others close by. There are three or four nice grocery stores, and shopping centers nearby too. The Village Pub is one of several with that same name belonging to a local chain owned by the Ellis family that owns Ellis Island, and they may still own Falconi Acura, but I'm not sure. I doubt you'd find a lot of SYF's hanging out there. Coming from a big Italian family of restaurateurs back east, their Italian food used to be excellent. I'm embarrassed to say I haven't had dinner at any of them in a long time. BTW, Frank Ellis introduced the steak and cheese Philly sandwich to Las Vegas, and renamed it the Tom Jones sandwich.
