Recently I stayed in a condo resort unit right behind Tropicana & Hooters called the Desert Rose Resort. It is a condo complex (former timeshare property converted to hotel status). What a nice hidden gem! No casino but take a 10 minute walk through the employee parking lot and you're in the Tropicana.

I stayed during mid week, paid an average of $75/night for a fully equipped one bedroom condo. Very quiet, nice grounds and free breakfast w/Starbucks coffee, which wasn't bad at all. I would stay again in a heartbeat. And no one pressured me for the "vacation condo" sales pitch.
The condos have a fully equipped kitchen so I saved some time & money by cooking a few of my own meals.

Like others have suggested, I love staying at South Point too (stay there at least once a year since it was South Coast), and if money was no object, Red Rock Resort .

How about the Rainbow Club in Henderson. Do they have rooms? It's right downtown, of course.

Lake Las Vegas might be appealing to you. It is quiet and safe with lots of great restaurants. The views are amazing and there are some really low private vacation rental deals out there right now, lots of units have full kitchens so you can cook for yourself. The casino in the village is opening in May and will be dealing with a more mature customer base I would expect. You have to realize it is a long way from the strip however, you wouldn't want to be trying to travel back and forth. It is definitely the different side of Vegas out there!
